Obama rules out Military excursions into the Ukraine. This doesn't mean he wont send our Military to participate in exercises in and around the Ukraine. Does any think Diplomacy will work in this situation with Russia. Obama vows to bring more Sanctions. Thinking this will make it hurt economically. What do you think this message means to Putin and Russia? What say ye?
President Barack Obama ruled out U.S. military involvement in Ukraine on Wednesday, emphasizing diplomacy in the U.S. standoff with Russia over Crimea.
"We are not going to be getting into a military excursion in Ukraine," Obama told KNSD, San Diego's NBC affiliate, in an interview.
"We need do not need to trigger an actual war with Russia," he told KSDK, a St. Louis station owned by Gannett in a separate interview.
Obama, who imposed sanctions on 11 Russian and Ukrainian officials on Monday, said the United States will push diplomatic efforts to bring pressure on Russia to loosen its grip on the Crimea region of southern Ukraine.
"There is a better path, but I think even the Ukrainians would acknowledge that for us to engage Russia militarily would not be appropriate and would not be good for Ukraine either," Obama told KNSD......snip~

I'm with Obama on this one - this is a far superior strategy to creating red lines and then when they're crossed skipping back a few paces and declaring a new red line. Much better to forget about red lines and declare defeat right from day one.
More interesting will be to see Obama's posture should Russian advancement threaten the sovereignty of NATO members.
I always find it amusing to watch Republicans talk about how badly Obama is handling it...and then saying they wouldn't do anything substantially different.I dont think we should go to war with Russia. Even thought it is Obama and everything he does in wrong, even the right doesnt beleive a war with Russia is a good idea. Do they?

Of course it's not a good idea, but, you don't tell the Russians that military force is, flat out, not an option. That's going to encourage then.

So what? It's not our business.
Until the EU steps up, we should primarily make smarmy comments about Russia taking over former USSR countries and otherwise, ignore it.
EDIT: Just to be clear, Obama has my full support on this one. 1 attaboy to Barack.
But, by the time it is our business, it could be a scenario where hundreds of thousands of people could die.
Why not attempt to bluff Putin into backing down, before it gets to that point?
It wasn't any of our business in the 1930's and 400,000 Americans died. Why would we knowingly go down that path, again?
NATO exists now.
Heya Ockham :2wave: .....the EU is stepping up Merkel has Spoken and even now has crushed a trade deal with the Russians. Course that littlke wording by the Russians about Estonia has quite a few concerned, even more.
Now as we know how some think those sanctions against Putins people and theirs against ours are significant actions and Imply our intentions and all. Do you think Putins Propaganda Machine is going full tilt in the areas of the planet that have not weighed in on the matter in the UN?

Of course he's right ... along those lines I'm surprised every mom & pop store doesn't post a sign that says ...
Bluff a willingness to start WWIII? That seems a bit extreme and not very credible.
