It looks like Obama still wants to push for amnesty. Hopefully there are enough democrats and republicans to oppose him.

Obama renews pledge on immigration reform

President Barack Obama is asking Hispanic activists to build a movement outside Washington to push for overhauling immigration, saying he can't do it by himself and Republicans aren't playing along.

He said he remains committed to his unfulfilled promise to rewrite the nation's immigration laws, but offered no timelines as he spoke Monday at the annual conference of a major Hispanic civil rights organization, the National Council of La Raza

Any pragmatic immigration policy will include some form of amnesty or other. No amnesty, nohow is an inherently uncompromising, not to mention impractical position.

Amnesty only encourages illegal immigration even more. The Reagan Amnesty should be proof of this seeing how we went from 3 million illegals in 1986 to 12-20 million plus illegals we have today. Anything that encourages illegal immigration is not a solution. Amnesty amounts to pouring gasoline on the fire and expecting it to go out. We do not need amnesty, States like Oklahoma and Arizona have proved that you do not need amnesty. Encouraging illegal immigration is not a compromise in any form to those who actually oppose illegal immigration. The only people that amnesty is a compromise to are illegals and the scum who harbor house and or aid them.

Illegal immigration in America today is much more about "push" factors than "pull" factors. It's the push factors that are causing people to come over here illegally. And I'm talking about amnesty for those who are already here and integrated into our economy.

This has zero to do with anything but his re-election. It's crucial he gets the hispanic vote so he's sowing seeds now.

and how long being here illegally equates to being "integrated"? One day, one month, one year, etc?

In any reform I would like to see a mechanism to keep people from coming in illegally. If it doesn't in the future we will face what we are today.

This is exactly it. All of our politicians are quite content to leave everything as is.

Bold part: Then we need to start pushing them back.

Rest: Don't care how long they've been here, they're here illegally and need to be sent home back to thier country of origin.

Something I got in my email from a friend:

What did Presidents Hoover, Truman, and Eisenhower have in common?

Back during the great depression, Herbert Hoover ordered the deportation of ALL illegal aliens in order to make jobs available to American citizens that desperately needed work.

Harry Truman deported over two million illegal aliens after WWII to create jobs for returning veterans.

In 1954 Dwight Eisenhower deported 13 million Mexicans. The program was called Operation Wetback. It was done so WWII and Korean veterans would have a better chance at jobs. It took two years, but they deported them!

Why you might ask can't they do this today?
Actually the answer is quite simple.

Hoover,Truman, and Eisenhower were men of honor, not untrustworthy politicians pandering for votes! ~

You did hear that President Obama announced all the borders had been closed. There was a bit of mumbling at the press conference and President Obama said, "Bookstores? What bookstores?"

I'm sure he will expedite immigration reform and as they did when Al Gore was running for president, the citizenship process will skip the standard procedures that involve records checks and go right to qualifying all of them to vote.
