The Department of Commerce is set to hand off the final vestiges of American control over the Internet to international authorities in less than two months, officials have confirmed.

The department will finalize the transition effective Oct. 1, Assistant Secretary Lawrence Strickling wrote on Tuesday, barring what he called "any significant impediment."

A real bad deal IMO. What say you all?

Will we see certain companies who advertise(like gun companies), or people that have many gun related videos on YouTube....be censored?
Will certain political ads or ideas be censored?

Will the websight for my company, be censored?

Why is it a bad deal? Privatizing the handling of internet domain names is bad how? What is bad about it other than Obama is doing it?

So you have absolutely no clue what this actually does. Thank you for clearing that up.

Good idea in my mind. We are not very good with the internet. Many here in fact are horrible at it. I say let France Ireland or Iceland take over for the next few decades.

Maybe some of the Scandinavian countries....

Wee need a fresh start.

Abdicating control of anything that is ours, seems like a bad idea.

Pretty much, that's why I posed the questions.
So tell us why you think it's a good thing?

OK...fill us in.....

Why?

The internet is not "yours", it belongs to humanity as a whole.

Because as usual you're fear mongering and making up ridiculously hyperbolic scenarios with no basis in reality on a subject you know nothing about. This must all be part of Obama's plan to take your guns and shut down your lame website.

It is not ours. We just had full oversite. Now we will share some of it.

So you where saying it was a bad idea, but did not know what you where talking about. Well, that clears things up. I will help you learn tho, but it will take alot of reading. Start here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ICANN

There is no fear mongering from me here. I merely presented some questions to an article I posted....and asked for input....not bashing!

Why can't you just be respectful and explain your points?

It is not ours. We just had full oversite. Now we will share some of it.

He invented it but gave it up so all mankind not just Americans could benefit from it.

Would have made a great president....

That's just media lies and what the government wants you to think. Gore really gave us the internet so he could put a virus on computers, allowing him to use their power in the hunt for ManBearPig.

(Sir) Tim Berners-Lee, a British scientist at CERN, invented the World Wide Web (WWW) in 1989. The web was originally conceived and developed to meet the demand for automatic information-sharing between scientists in universities and institutes around the world.

Did Al Gore Claim He Invented the Internet? : snopes.com

During my service in the United States Congress, I took the initiative in creating the Internet. I took the initiative in moving forward a whole range of initiatives that have proven to be important to our country's economic growth and environmental protection, improvements in our educational system.

Although Vice-President Gore's phrasing might have been a bit clumsy (and perhaps self-serving), he was not claiming that he "invented" the Internet in the sense of having designed or implemented it, but rather that he was responsible, in an economic and legislative sense, for fostering the development the technology that we now know as the Internet.
To claim that Gore was seriously trying to take credit for the "invention" of the Internet is, frankly, just silly political posturing that arose out of a close presidential campaign. Gore never used the word "invent," and the words "create" and "invent" have distinctly different meanings: the former is used in the sense of "to bring about" or "to bring into existence" while the latter is generally used to signify the first instance of someone's thinking up or implementing an idea.

I haveba question that some of are probably going to think is pretty dumb but ild be dsmn appriciative to anyone who can explain to me what the internet is exactly?

I know the service it provides and i understand the concept of coding. What eludes me is exactly what we are giving up control of. Is thete some master piece of hardware somewhere that allows all the data transfer to happen. Is there a switch or plug that could be pulled that would shut the whole thing down?

I always thought internet was a conglomeration of servers that used a universal protocol language to communicate with each other. I never thought that the internet was a singular thing. I thought it a collective sum of many componets that could not be controlled by a single entity. Do i have it wrong?

Nope it is all about owlbears

I'm sorry, but the left and their MSM partners have proven context has no meaning.

Al Gore said "I took the initiative in creating the Internet."

Just one of a multitude of lies from him.

End of story.

No one really cares what you think the end of the story is, nor is it relevant to actual honest discussion. Context does matter, and I do not use others to excuse trying to pass off lies. Why do you?

Trust me, I am repulsed by those who reject context.

My post was to illustrate the massive hypocrisy of the left when it comes to the lies, distortions, and fraud being committed by Hillary Clinton, and her MSM partners. They have proven context does not exist.

Perhaps you should either look in the mirror, or point the light on your fellow liberals.

Suggesting context does matter is a concept that doesn't exist on the left, so spare me the "who cares" BS.

Please show where I have ignored context. Thank you in advance.

Perhaps you didn't notice I didn't accuse you of ignoring context.

I most certainly accused your fellow liberals of ignoring it.

Which affects me how? Are you trying to debate these people you claim are doing that, or are you discussing it with me?
