True enough. Here is what he said: But let's be clear. At some point, we as a country will have to reckon with the fact that this type of mass violence does not happen in other advanced countries. It doesn't happen in other places with this kind of frequency.

At best Obama was misrepresenting what does and does not happen in comparable nations. But, we do need to have a conversation about violence and mass shootings in this nation. It is clear we have sociological issues, but it is worthless to simply go after the tools used as a solution.

Obama, naturally. Everything is political for some people. If it isn't, they find some contorted way to make it so. You're seeing those contortions here and elsewhere on this site, as well as from the usual suspects in the media. This is an avenue for them to discuss violence on the right, the need for gun control, and the need to muzzle political opposition. Concerning those types, it's hard not to think their purpose would be better served if more had been murdered. They ain't good people where I come from.

Furthermore, it appears for all the world that this is an opportunity to impugn the entire political right in the country, because we all know that the political right is racist. The President is correct. America has a problem that many refuse to look at. This thread is a prime example, nitpicking and quibbling and redefining what happened until it goes away. Other places do have similar events. That much is true as far as it goes, but those other places have them in ones or twos, and then they do something about it so it's less likely to happen again. America has them every six months or so, and NRA drones shout and dissemble until the grieving families shut up, then starts preparing for the next one. "Buy guns, they want your guns, only more guns will stop this."! It hasn't worked yet.
