There you go I did do some Googling for you. Idiots who want links to opinion need help so I started for you. Abstinence only education does not and will not do the job.
Yes and at great lengths. Which is why we are all waiting with baited breath for the two DOMA cases to get to the SCOTUS who will decide the constitutionality of the states anti-SSM laws sometime this year. This is a long thread so I haven't read all the posts. Has anyone pointed out that Obama said he personally thought gay people should marry but also that this should be an issue for the states?
And in fact abstinence is being practiced by some young people.
Here are the top ten states in STD's

You will notice the states that are red dominate the statistics. When you try and teach abstinence only it seems to be a problem. It does not work because people do not practice this method and need to be taught sex education.
Hes using it as a wedge issue against Romney. Up until now, Romney could say he has the same position as the President. Now he can no longer claim that unless he goes the same route. I am guessing he will not come out for gay marriage and will go back to defending DOMA, I dont know for sure with Romney, its hard telling.
Abstenence is fine. Not knowing about sex and sex ed is not fine. Any reliable stats out there showing that teaching abstenence only actually decreases the % of teens actually having sex and not just denying that they are?
I guess this puts Obama on the opposite side of Bill Clinton and Mitt Romney.
Some students are practicing abstinence, some aren't. Some will have STD and some won't, some teenage girls will become pregnant and some won't, some will have abortions, some won't.
We can ask ourselves whether teenage pregnancies and STD have increased since the 1950's, for example, or, despite all the information we have at hand, increased. I think the answer is obvious.
It seems clear then that sex education is not enough, that there has to be more. Rather then demonize those who want to arrive at the same conclusion, ie less STD, unwanted pregnancies and abortions, we should have an open and honest debate on how to get to that point.
