RALEIGH, North Carolina (Reuters) - North Carolina voters on Tuesday approved a state constitutional amendment that bans same-sex marriage and civil unions, dealing a blow to efforts across the United States to expand gay marriage rights.
The amendment, which says marriage between a man and a woman is the only legally recognized domestic union in the state, passed by a wide margin. With 95 of 100 counties' results reported, about 61 percent of votes backed the amendment.
North Carolina law already blocks gay and lesbian couples from marrying, but the state now joins the rest of the Southeast states in adding the prohibition to its constitution.
Didn't expect different, but that is sad. Another slap in the face to freedom.
As I have always suggested, Freedom SHOULD NOT be an allowance to act in an Immoral manner. Once it has become that (as it has in most of the states around where I live), Freedom really has no value anymore. Things like this are what keep the faint Hope alive in me that there might just be enough people out there who still understand Right and Wrong to fix what this nation has become.

What is immoral to you is not to another. How are your views more right than theirs?
How about because mine align with thousands of years of human existance and tradition while theirs do not?

For the advocates of states rights, this is a victory, if one is truly an advocate of states rights and not just when it suits them. This is how this country was set up. For states to be able to have the kind of laws they want to have. This is the way North Carolinians want to live. Just as it is equally a victory for states to have gay marriage, its their choice to have it and to live the way they want to live.

There are all kinds of laws in states that allow or disallow people to do things. I know this seems trivial perhaps, but in some states you have the right to ride a motorcycle without a helmet, yet in many others you don't. I don't know if it is still this way but in Oregon when I used to spend time there, you didn't have the right to pump your own gas.... Yeah, I know I will get blazed for those I am sure, but, States were set up to be able to have their own individual laws for their people to live the way they want to, and it is a representation OF the people BY the people of that state.States rights have never included denying rights to others. That is one of the reasons that the Federal Government was formed...to protect peoples rights. So if anything it is the opposite.
Also Prop 8 in California was a constitutional amendment to California's Constitution. It got shot down (at least until it is appealed...and prolly beyond imo). So don't count your chickens before they hatch just yet.

We're supposed to evolve and grow in intelligence....not succumb to thousands of years of stupidity just because it's "moral tradition".
Remember....slavery is part of thousands of years of tradition too.
So marriage between a man and a woman is stupid?
Good going NC. I stand behind you. All this "you have to accept gay" crap is disgusting. It IS immoral, and it goes directly against my religious beliefs. Since when do I not have a right to believe that gay marriage is wrong? It seems that its wrong if I don't accept it, but if you push acceptance so strongly, why don't you accept the fact that I do NOT accept it?
And comparing slavery to gay marriage, I know that when THIS comparison is made, that obviously NO good argument for it CAN be made.
Speaking of this, did anyone watch Wheel of Fortune last night with the gay dude that won and the remark by Pat Sajak during the bonus round? That was hilarious and even the audience could be heard chuckling. I was like "damn dude".

Embarrassing. Truly embarrassing.
And what's worse is when you read the reader comments that follow the article.

Edit: I want to make it clear that I am only against gay marriage. I am not against gays as I know gay people and I wish them the best. I do not wish harm or anything bad to gays, I just do not accept their unions as marriage. I am not against calling them civil unions. I do not believe in "gay rights" as being gay doesn't give you any special rights.
Allowing gays to marry has no flippin' effect on anyone who is not gay.
I have no idea why people are dead set against it other than religious prejudice and ignorance.
Gay marriage does not change, alter, or take anything away from straight marriage.

Actually, there are documents older than the bible acknowledging homosexuality.
