Republican North Carolina state legislators have proposed allowing an official state religion in a measure that would declare the state exempt from the Constitution and court rulings.
The bill, filed Monday by two GOP lawmakers from Rowan County and backed by nine other Republicans, says each state "is sovereign" and courts cannot block a state "from making laws respecting an establishment of religion." The legislation was filed in response to a lawsuit to stop county commissioners in Rowan County from opening meetings with a Christian prayer, wral.com reported.
The religion bill comes as some Republican-led states seek to separate themselves from the federal government, primarily on the issues of guns and Obamacare. This includes a proposal in Mississippi to establish a state board with the power to nullify federal laws.

This isn't in contradiction to the Constitution. As much as I would oppose such a measure (it's bad for religion), it is within the State Powers to declare a State Church. At the time of the Signing of the Constitution, for example, several states had their own respective state churches, and kept them for years.
Gosh, I wonder if there's some obscure passage in the Constitution preventing a law respecting an establishment of religion. Oh well, if there is it's probably far too buried for anyone to find it.
Since i know the amendment that you are talking about, what was the first word of it again?
In your opinion, what does the first amendment prohibit?

You understand that the federal constitution also applies to states, right?
you understand you indicated the first amendment which specifies congress, right?

Beats the Hell out of meekly surrendering to the Godless Obama loons controlling every aspect of your life with their depraved view of the world. Like all dictators, Obama wants government to be your religion, and all other religious competitors to be destroyed or under his control. The homosexuals hate Christianity and create endless threads on here ridiculing the basic tenets of Christianity. Why is that OK, but not this?
It's time for all states rights advocates to fight back against the no judgments, tolerate everything, depravity of the Loons. Even if awkwardly, North Carolina is making a start.
I'm just glad to see someone fighting back against all that Americans hate.

What a waste of time, so unconstitutional it's not even funny. What silly little children.
How is it unconstitutional?
Are you really asking us why it's ok for an individual to express their opinion that a particular religion is bad but not ok for the government to do the same?
Here's a good way to answer the question: Picture a scenario in which North Carolina was declaring Islam to be its official state religion.

The Libbos would be screaming: "it's ok, because there's nothing in SC's Constitution making it illegal and there damn sure isn't anything in The United States Constitution saying they can't do it".
you understand you indicated the first amendment which specifies congress, right?

Again, read the 14th amendment as applied by the Courts. Or do you believe States can prohibit freedom of speech and the press also?
