No state has met 14-day drop in cases for reopening

The objective, for some, is to have us stay closed forever.

Why can't you post normal posts anymore Lutherf? Just this random cry baby buill****.

50,000+ DEAD in the month of April, 2020. What sort of person shrugs it off and compares it to second-hand smoke? OMG! BTW - NO ONE predicted "MILLIONS DEAD" except the ***** Trump who suggested that if we did NOTHING millions would die. Who on earth would ever suggest doing nothing? This is one BS concept!
This is how uninformed those on the left are. Yes no one predicted milluons dead except for hundreds of links. Here is one

Coronavirus death toll could reach up to 1.7 million in US, according to worst case scenarios | The Independent

Secondly, 50000 dead out of over 300 million is not worth destroying the lives and the nation of those still living. If the cure is worse than the disease then we have a problem. Do you cut your arm off to fix a hangnail? Thats what we are doing with this shutdown.
Remember when the claim was we needed thousands and thousands of respirators? ooops turns out we didn't. People are missing cancer checks because of the shutdown. This is getting to be madness. we

No state has met 14-day drop in cases for reopening

No state that has opted to reopen has come close to the federally recommended 14 consecutive days of declining cases.
Not only has no state met the White House Guideline of 14 consecutive days of declining COVID hospitalizations, but many re-opening states such as Georgia actually have increasing daily COVID hospitalizations.

Tough call on several fronts. No one knows how deadly will be the next Covid outbreak. But based on the number of states that plan to return to economic activity between April 30 and May 15,
it seems the next outbreak is destined to be more broadly widespread rather than concentrated in the metropolitan areas originally visited by global travelers from Asia and Europe.
Only 3 states have no high-infection counties with hundreds of Covid cases: Montana, Wyoming and West Virginia.

But now the virus is everywhere, and we will begin to determine across 50 states:
Can we fly with 50% empty seats? Can restaurants survive while serving 25% as many tables? How can meat packers work more safely?
Will anyone risk taking public transportation, or a cruise? Will commercial real estate collapse as a majority of office workers connect from home?
Will sports fans trust rooting at stadiums?

To Be Determined!

Such arrogance! You must be the source Dr Fauci turns to to learn all there is about a previously unknown virus.

Everyone to your left is a dolt, uninformed, obviously not attuned to the brilliant mind of our president who prescribed
anti-malarial drugs, bleach, household disinfectant and sunshine to eradicate Covid-19. I wonder how many are relying on those cures? Not too many on the Left, I assure you.

The primary reasons why our death toll has not followed "worst case scenarios" include the shut down, personal distancing, and curtailing international travel.
None of these steps were taken early enough by the US, or we might be fortunate enough to have far fewer infections and deaths.
But I am sure you know that as well.

Indeed. If the data we continue to receive shows that high infection prone areas can handle increased number of cases which don't require hospitalization, then moving ahead with openings which feature social distancing guidelines makes sense. I think it would also be smart for states to have a plan B in case there is an overflow of people requiring hospital care; this way it avoids inefficiencies and panic.

Our return to social and business activity must be on a state-by-state basis. But each state should also coordinate with the bordering states in order to support best outcomes.

New York is working with 6 other North East states. California, Oregon and Washington are doing the same, in order to reduce cross-state line unsafe activities.

Yep. I'm in one of those 6 Northeast states, and it makes perfect sense that bordering states coordinate since most will feature plenty in the way of interstate commerce and shared workforces.

Ugh! 50,000+ are in the month of April - we're now over 60,000. The link from the Independent assumes we do nothing, i.e. Shelter-At-Home. Why do you think it's not a million or more? Answer: Shelter-In-Place! I have to say you comparing more than 60,000 deaths to a hangnail speaks volumes about your humanity. I'd love to hear what you would say if a family member of yours died! Shame on anyone who thinks the way you do.

Curious, whose fault is that? Govenors or Trump?

I think the fact that nearly every state is primed to attempt a return to social behavior has been forced on state governments.
And governors are feeling the pressure because our president doesn't care as much about protecting lives as he is interested in igniting the economy in order to get reelected.

It's understandable that Americans are anxious to return to work, so they can afford food, protect their home and pay their bills. Most want to see our society function again.
But it is clear Pres Trump has pushed for quick re-opening and doesn't care that we still lack adequate testing materials in order to determine who can and should return to work, or school.

Arrogance wrapped in dishonesty is altering someones post. Do it again you go permanent iggy

I'm with you, New Jersey! I was glad to hear our regional governors put their heads together.
Our two states (I'm in Long Island) have suffered greatly. Folks who live in rural counties that have little Covid infection should be able to return to work and a careful return to social activity.
But in the heavily infected cities, counties we need to have broad testing, and take it slow.

Nassau county where I live has over 35,000 CONFIRMED cases. We have over 1600 deaths! Think I'm rushing out to get a massage?
Key is fact that no one knows how many more are infected in our county. My guess is over 100 thousand, maybe 2X that.
I want my favorite pub, Italian restaurant and wine store to survive. And I'm buying from them in order to help out.
BUT I am not willing to eat dinner at a sit down while we have zero protections about the health of those around us.

Lets do math. Please divide 60000 into the current population and x 100. Lets see what danger we are equivalent to. Ill start with second hand smoke danger.

Here we go with the political labels. I'm independent and don't really care who is president, but what I said was those of you who call for shutdowns should be the ones who bear the entire cost burden for all the people out of work. The rest of us who want to reopen can have some tax relief.

Nah, you should bear the entire burden yourself.

I got a better idea. More have died from covid than in the Vietnam war.

But less than WWII. So we're good right?

One big problem of using the confirmed COVID-19 case count is that more testing raises that confirmed case count even with no increase in cases requiring hospitalization. The important number is the current COVID-19 infected requiring hospitalization count since the intention of the "shutdowns" was to keep that from exceeding available capacity.

Read the guidelines. Another benchmark to move from one phase to the next is a decline in the percentage of tests that are positive.

^ This is textbook lefty....textbook....when you challenge them with facts, especially math.

I'm nowhere near a lefty, as anyone who knows me will tell you.

What you reply with is typical Trump. You understand the words, but pretend that you don't.

Apples aren't oranges, and neither are grapes. Pandemics aren't auto accidents, heart attacks nor strokes. Covid-19 isn't the common cold. Those are facts.

breath
Keep calm.
Take a deep breath.
There's no need to panic about dictatorships and socialism

Despite the fear-mongers
telling everyone this is an indefinite detention,
we're just waiting a little bit as we prepare.

There are clear and established goals for re-opening.
There's already an end in sight.
The sooner we meet our goals, the sooner we re-open.

We need to get our resources in place
We need the rate of infection to drop

That's it.
Really reasonable goals, don't you think?

In addition to the infection rate dropping we just need these resources in place.
We will need to have full and ample stockpiles of
  • PPE for all the healthcare workers nation-wide
  • w/e appropriate medical equipment nation-wide
  • covid-19 tests nation-wide
We will also need to have a fully staffed organization of contact tracers nation-wide

Makes me wonder what my hero, Winston Churchill would say to Americans if he were with us now.
So much whining by Americans who just need their freedom to shop, hang at the beach and go to rodeos.
So many who can't tolerate being told to stay home for their own health, and to self distance for everyone's benefit.

What would these brave souls do if their towns were being fire bombed nightly like London in 1941?
I'm sure many of those armed tough guys who stormed the Michigan capital with their MAGA signs would be willing to sacrifice for their nation. Right?

It's lot scarier for some of these Trumpco customers than it is for folks who get their goods elsewhere.

Some of them, when they look at these restrictions,
they see omens and portents.
Omens of evil.
Portents of fascism.
Portents of socialism.

Some of them,
they're ****less, spooked the **** up, getting jumpy.
They legit worry their governor ( or their mayor ) has become some watered-down, wannabe Hitler/Stalin hybrid hellbent on finalizing the downfall of America from within.

It's hard to take them seriously, but they're seriously frightened.

I mean "angry".
They're not frightened.
They're "angry" about all these governors and mayors destroying America
with their draconian stay-at-home-during-the-pandemic orders.

Because of social distancing. Why is that hard for you to understand? Social distancing was successful.

Social distancing is also destroying the economy and keeping cancer patients away from the hospitals. You'll fix one problem and create 15 more

COVID Act Now certainly did predict millions of deaths, and their modeling, incredibly inaccurate and crappy, was the source for many states imposing restrictions. Trump did't have a thing in the world to do with their "modeling".

Social distancing is keeping deaths down. Why are you changing the subject? Before you were trying to argue that social distancing wasn't effective. It's been shown to be incredibly effective.

If the "economy opens back up" the infection rate will spike again and we'll be back where we started. The economy will tank if everyone is dead.

My mother had cancer surgery two weeks ago. Medically necessary surgeries are still being performed. Stop spreading lies.

People who need cancer screenings are not getting them. Hospitals are going under because they aren't makimg money. They are laying off staf because patients can't come in. I myself have to see my heart doctor over teleconference. I'd like to see how that examination works. I guess I'll have to wait another 6 months for a stress test eh? Please challenge me as a liar on this. I love shoving links up sideways.
