This is from Dick Morris' Blog

"Just as Eileen McGann and I predicted in our book, Fleeced, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) is pushing an amendment in Congress that would require the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to “take actions to encourage and promote diversity in communication media ownership and to ensure that broadcast station licenses are used in the public interest,” according to CBS news.

This measure is far more dangerous than the Fairness Doctrine, since it goes not only to programming but to the personnel a station employs, the members of its board and its ownership structure. Pelosi is trying not to muzzle talk radio but to take it over!"

I disagree with attempting to control what is broadcast in the media... but I certainly have nothing against passing laws intended to promote diversity of ownership in the media. Currently, all of the broadcast media in the United States are owned by a total of, if I recall correctly, four separate corporations.

That's insane.

Approx. 20 years ago it was owned by roughly 50.

Funny how 4 owners of media is an issue here, but the coming one owner of health care is a good thing.

Communication is the most important no matter what. As long as communication is 100% unfettered then people can see what is wrong and chose to fix it. When your senses are numbed and you only few mental transducers in the media then you may not see something needed.
Good luck trying to fix the health care system if the communication system is faulty to the people. Good luck trying to stop the war if the communication system is faulty to the people. Good luck trying to change anything that matters.
I bet at its heart this new attempt is some sorta draconian though. Damn my pessimism at our government.

 the government has a "statist monopoly" on road building and the military too. Is that a denial of liberty too, Ron Paul?

nah they do roads fine. lol..... military as well....

healthcare, banks, muzzling free speach via a fairness doctrine, a new awb, etc... not so cool.

how much control do you want to give to your government overlords.

God you are just ignorent, diversity is only a good thing when somone else owns all the stuff.

When people you agree with own it it is already diverse.

There is nothing stopping anyone from opening a media outlet, just look at air america. They opened a left wing talk radio station ... it crashed and burned (pun intended) but they did it.

If there was a market for left wing radio it would we there. You cant just force statins to play crap no one wnats to hear ... and then expect it to make money.

Perhaps you would like a single state owned media, that would be very diverse .. it would be owned by all of us!

Those two things are stated to be handled by the government by the Constitution. So that argument doesn't work.

I haven't really looked too much into this subject, but I do believe that cutting down on conservative radio is all in all a pretty stupid idea. If there's a demand for it then they ought to be able to pursue its use. Besides, if you're liberal and don't want to listen to it, then don't listen to it.

Also, I appreciated the "U-Fail" photo :2razz:
