Need a job....5.8 million job openings

forget it motivator

they just want to bitch

i know my area...and my jobs

and i will find a great employee in that range....i just have to wade through the muck to get to them

an average mba grad....maybe 80k depending on where....maybe 100-120 in nyc

but a regular accounting grad from a normal college, in a normal job.....

yeah....35-40k will get them in the door, and then it is up to them where they end up

Clerks with no acct degree make more than you're offering.

I believe the anecdotal information here is accurate. Of course, I've spent a lifetime working as an employee and an employer. The information you ridicule is about as golden as it gets because it comes from people actually involved in working, hiring and conducting business. It doesn't come from someone sitting at a computer posting links to studies far from reality.

If you're so big on anecdotes, my family has had three lifetimes of experience working as an acct and his # is incredibly stingy

POST # 44 in this thread

80k for a basic staff accountant?

This is data entry, payables, receivables, and income recording

This isn't my top accountants....or my controller

And the pay is what you start at....

But again, thanks for playing

You have failed at filling the position so your claims about what it takes to fill that position are worthless

Job openings are just about everywhere today.

America had around 5.75 million job openings in March. That's just shy of the all-time high, 5.78 million openings, set last July, according Labor Department data published Tuesday.

It's great that U.S. businesses are hiring. But these record number of openings are also a sign that business owners can't find the skilled workers qualified to fill the jobs they have.

"Employers are having a tougher time finding qualified workers," says Peter Boockvar, chief market analyst at the Lindsey Group.
Related: America's part-time work force is huge

Since November, the number of job openings has increased for five straight months. In 2007, before the Great Recession began, job openings averaged 4.5 million per month. Last year there were 5.3 million openings per month on average.

America has near record 5.8 million job openings - May. 10, 2016

i have a couple of things open now....

but looking for the right people, not just warm bodies

and skills are lacking....(ie one in the accounting department, and most of the people i have had brought in failed our test on excel)

if you cant use excel in accounting, you are basically screwed

Or ............. a large number of those jobs are low paying, part-time, or jobs many people would not want to do. Does it say how many were filled, I see a lot of innuendo that people are not going after those jobs, but for all we know most have been filled by now. So many missing details hard to really comment, but I see you had no problem adding you insight.

You have failed at filling the position so your claims about what it takes to fill that position are worthless

You are late to the party, and again, another person who thinks they know more about what I need, and what it entails, and what it is worth than I do

And I filled the spot this afternoon...an ex army lady, with an two year degree in accounting

Not exactly what I wanted, but then again, you never get what you don't ask for

I think she will be wonderful...mature and I love veterans....

But then again, you probably think she is better off unemployed right?

Stupidity is a measure of mental acuity. You can't blame that on the progressives for stupidity. You can blame them, if you would like, for poor outcomes in the school system.

OTH, you actually can blame Republicans for stupidity as the Flint water crisis actually involved lead poisoning, which does destroy the brain, which actually involved loss of IQ points amongst those afflicted.

I can blame them because they took over the education system in this country starting at the university level. They dumb down our kids with their social justice/social experimentation agenda.

Indeed. The point, which your post also seems to support, is that those 5.8 million openings may be partly (or even mostly) fictional.

Then to take it further that means most of the opening for decades have been fictional, to include the 'boom' days before the 2001 crash.

However the OTHER part was the multiple offers out there for my wife, even before she did any serious looking.

That more than anything means uptick in jobs to me... :peace

You are late to the party, and again, another person who thinks they know more about what I need, and what it entails, and what it is worth than I do

I don't know what you need and I doubt you do either.

But I do know what you posted, and your offered pay was cheap

And I filled the spot this afternoon...an ex army lady, with an two year degree in accounting

Sure you did

What he said discredits him

He talks as if he's an expert on filling such a position yet he has completely failed at filling the position.

Omfg

How long did the ad run?

Where was it posted?

I said I got 200 resumes....how many had I been through?

i guess I need to stop trying to help other people on here with life experiences....

Gotta to be ripe for automation? Hell, I think even 50% if health care should be automated, physicians are rock stupid except in the bell curve area of their practice (if you're lucky).

True, we have one of the most backward health care systems in the world. This is one of the reasons are costs are so much higher than the rest of the world. There is almost no sharing of electronic information between health care practitioners. One of the most impressive things about the Kaiser system is their level of automation....

Don't know, but it's DC which is not a cheap labor market. On CraigsList I see only one job ad with pay mentioned and thats $40k-$55k

Cool story, bro? What is it with you guys and not providing links?

He talks as if he's an expert on filling such a position yet he has completely failed at filling the position.

But since he owns a business with an accounting staff he obviously has filled positions in the past. Maybe you should ask him how many before moving forward with that line of argument.

Yep, I live in the DC area so that site defaults to DC average. In my neighborhood we have small town homes "From the low $800s".. at that level I fail to see much significance in "low" and "high"

But anyway, in DC it is $33k, as I show in a later post.

No, you did not show that.

You showed the avg salary for an acct clerk and he said he wanted an accountant

Just curious, but why would an accountant need to use excel?

I have a business, I use Quickbooks plus a program that I developed myself that I call my "shop management" program (to create estimates, track orders, produce invoices, keep up with recievables, etc) for most of my accounting needs. I've never had a need for excel, although I did once experiment with it as a way of indirectly creating formulas which could be converted to javascript.

... Can't spell your name, or read the instructions to properly fill out an online resume? Keep on walking...

How would you know if they spelled their name incorrectly? Just wondering.

If you're a CPA and don't know excel, there is something wrong with the school you went to. I learned excel on the fly managing restaurants. If you can figure out your way around excel, prepare for a life of manual labor.

I don't think that excel even existed when I went to school (not that I am a CPA, but I did take accounting classes). We did have Lotus 123 though, the professors thought it was a novelty program that wouldn't last. I guess they were correct.

Quick books couldn't come close to handling the books of an auto dealer

There are two companies that provide standard operating systems that provide everything from the accounting systems to the data bases

But they are limited in the way you can manipulate reports

Hence we download into excel, and format things into the way I and the owner want to see them

The two companies are Reynolds & Reynolds, and ADP....

There used to be a third major but it was bought by Reynolds a number of years ago

That is why excel is very important as a skill

You don't know how to find accountants jobs in DC on Craigslist?

Seriously?

Why should I go looking for something that may or may not be there when you have supposedly already found it and can provide the link to you own claim?
