Navy SEALs Face Assault Charges for Capturing Most-Wanted Terrorist - Iraq | War | Map - FOXNews.com
Navy SEALs have secretly captured one of the most wanted terrorists in Iraq — the alleged mastermind of the murder and mutilation of four Blackwater USA security guards in Fallujah in 2004. And three of the SEALs who captured him are now facing criminal charges, sources told FoxNews.com.
The three, all members of the Navy's elite commando unit, have refused non-judicial punishment — called an admiral's mast — and have requested a trial by court-martial.
This is absolutely disgusting and will only serve to put our service members in further danger by making them ever more hesitant and second guessing of their actions.
I LOVE the part about refusing NJP. Anyone who has served or is familiar with this procedure I think will also appreciate how they didn't just bend over.
Ahmed Hashim Abed, whom the military code-named "Objective Amber," told investigators he was punched by his captors — and he had the bloody lip to prove it.
I could understand if he was tortured or raped, but a bloody lip? The detainee probably tried spitting on the SEAL or commented on how he was glad the four members of Blackwater were strung up and burned (one of which was a former SEAL, and the youngest SEAL in history) and then took a punch to the face.
What a joke, where does this end? What a horrible slippery slope this incident is creating.
Matthew McCabe, a Special Operations Petty Officer Second Class (SO-2), is facing three charges: dereliction of performance of duty for willfully failing to safeguard a detainee, making a false official statement, and assault.
Petty Officer Jonathan Keefe, SO-2, is facing charges of dereliction of performance of duty and making a false official statement.
Petty Officer Julio Huertas, SO-1, faces those same charges and an additional charge of impediment of an investigation.
From that, I would guess that the reason they where charged is not that they roughed him up a bit, but that they lied about it.
What a ridiculous charge. Seriously, punching the guy in the face???
Though they shouldn't have lied about it I suppose.
They should have never been placed in a situation where they thought needed to cover their asses.

Interesting that CNN doesn't seem to think this is a story. I saw nothing on their website about it. Just an oversight? Or perhaps covering up another embarassing story for this administration that won't sit well with most Americans?
Maybe they suspect it's a bull**** charge. That sounds the most accurate for why they wouldn't have a story, because they will be guilty by association for Obama's miserable first year.:doh

This is just embarrasing... they should've just capped the guy.Navy SEALs Face Assault Charges for Capturing Most-Wanted Terrorist - Iraq | War | Map - FOXNews.com

I actually agree. The war itself is about violence. It's about killing and maiming people on a large scale. That's what happens in war. Who does it really benefit to get sidetracked by petty crap like this? It's like having airmen drop 3000 lb. bombs that blow civilians to bits but make a big deal if they write "take this, fags!" on the bombs. If anyone is going to be prosecuted for war crimes, it should be those at the top of the power hierarchy who pushed for this whole mess to begin with. What a ridiculous charge. If he committed those offenses, he should be prosecuted. If convicted, he should be punished.
I hate to admit it, but there are some scumbags in Special Forces, just like in any other occupation.
