NATO Response Force activated for first time

The NATO Response Force is going to be deployed. It is currently on standby. It will not be used to fight Russia in Ukraine. It is being activated as a defensive measure to protect the member states of NATO given the wide scope of Russia's invasion of Ukraine. In my opinion, it is prudent.

"For the first time, the NATO Response Force has been activated as a defensive measure in response to Russia's ongoing invasion of Ukraine.
NATO Supreme Allied Commander Gen. Tod Wolters activated the multinational force consisting of land, air, sea and special operations forces from the allies that can deploy quickly in support of the NATO alliance.
The activation of the response troops does not mean that any US or NATO troops will go into Ukraine, which is not a member. US President Joe Biden has been clear that US troops are deploying to eastern Europe to help bolster NATO countries nervous about Russia's aggressive actions, and they will not be fighting in Ukraine.

'This is an historic moment and the very first time the Alliance has employed these high readiness forces in a deterrence and defense role. They represent a flexible, combat credible force that can be employed in multiple ways and we are utilizing fully their inherent agility,' Wolters said in a statement 'These deterrence measures are prudent and enhance our speed, responsiveness and capability to shield and protect the one billion citizens we swore to protect.'

The force has not yet deployed but is on standby. It's not clear how many troops the response force will contain."

Better to be safe than sorry. But I don't believe Putin is crazy enough to attack
a NATO nation? If he would my guess there would be many cruise missiles knocking on his door!

On another note, Ukraine's former president is bad ass. He picked up a weapon and is out there fighting with his country.

He's nuts enough to do what's doing now, so yeah...he's flubbing nuts enough to attack a NATO country.
 
In my opinion there will be no direct confrontation.

Economic sanctions however can work.

People are loyal as long as they are ok in their pockets and their family members don't get affected.

The Russian Tsar was loved too by many until hunger hit the lands.

That is why I think Putin now is sending the army from Chechnya.

He was not expecting that many casualties.

Too many dead russians does not sit well at home with his base.

Swarm in where? Into Ukraine, to fight the Russian army directly?? Are you kidding?

Russia is reacting to what they see as a mortal threat to their survival -- ie. expansion of NATO right up to their borders. It's rather natural that they'll react by doing whatever it takes to survive. The answer is not to trigger their basic survival instinct -- especially not for frivolous reasons of NATO expansionism. Ukraine is a divided society, with sharply differing opinions and leanings on East vs West relations. The answer to that is FEDERALISM, and not some 2014 street mob doing a Capitol Insurrection street coup to impose their will on the entire country, like some game of winner-take-all. The Zelensky govt in Ukraine has imprisoned political opponents and shut down critical media in a country with sharp political divisions, and where one third of the country is Russian-speaking. What NATO & EU should have done is to assert high standards on democratic norms for any applicants for membership -- and informed Zelensky of the need to mend his ways and his politics. We're seeing the same problem in the USA, with an iron-fisted Democrat Left who want to impose their iron-handed rule on all Americans, whether through lockdowns or stacking the US Supreme Court. These kinds of overreaching stunts will only result in a desperate backlash from an aggrieved American people, who will no doubt be similarly vilified by the media like Putin.

Attacking a NATO nation is a whole other level. Don't see him making that insane move.

It's very clear that expanding an alliance against Russia right up to the borders of Russia will provoke conflict with Russia. This is glaringly obvious.
 
In my opinion anyone that believes a confrontation is possible between NATO and Russia allows their emotions to be manipulated by agitators. You know like your Fox News & CNN. Both sides for different reasons but they sure are perfecting their marketing.

Once the economic effects will be felt in Russia, those oligarchs might change their view of Putin and systems change. Even in Russia.
 
By swallowing Ukraine, the Russians draw up to those borders.
 
I would support nato giving the Ukraine's air support to make it a fair fight. Europe should lay air cover to the Ukrainian troops and allow them to fight to protect their homes.

Tying Russia up in this war benefits the rest of us.
 
Wouldn't it have made sense to do this months ago as we saw what Putin was up to? That fool in the White House has told use for many weeks that sanctions were going to deter Putin from an incursion into Ukraine, or at least maybe it would only be a minor incursion. He said this over and over, it's all over youtube. Then today he told us "sanctions were never believed to be a deterrent to Putin".
How can anyone like this guy or believe he has any idea of what he is doing.
Now his "black woman" pick for the SCOTUS isn't even the most qualified on his list. She is the most progressive.
Again, Biden isn't trying to unite the nation with compromise or moderation. He's setting upon his stated goal of being the most progressive President in history.

Maybe, the old USSR had a big problem with information traveling up the chain. The higher-ups did not like to hear anything contradicting what they believed or wanted to believe, and PootyPie is one of the old guard. So, it's entirely possible Putin dramatically overestimates how effective the current Russian military would be in a real fight against NATO. Let an organization like the USAF off its chain, and they'd see an entirely different battlefield in Ukraine even without a single NATO trooper putting boots on the ground in that nation, let alone adding the rest of NATO forces to the mix.

We absolutely have the capacity to mop the floor with Russia's conventional military forces, and Putin probably knows this. Even if he doesn't, even a madman realizes escalating this conflict seriously risks escalation to nuclear force and nobody wins in that situation.

Take it from a progressive, Biden is a moderate, corporate Dem. Don't believe the rhetoric, it's toxic.

IMO, we'd be a better country if we did pick a progressive, because progressing is better than digression, which is the rights new thing. If want a 3rd world it's not to difficult to just move to one, why take our country down?
