National park visitors cut down protected Joshua trees during partial government shutdown

(CNN)There are two kinds of people in this world: Those who take it upon themselves to go to understaffed national parks to keep them clean during the government shutdown, and then those who set up illegal campsites and cut down Joshua trees in the national park of the same name.

Pictures shared by the National Park Service and the nonprofit news organization National Parks Traveler show a downed tree and illegal campsites in California's Joshua Tree National Park.

COMMENT:-

To quote Mr. Trump "Sad.".

It shows how careless some visitors to parks, forest, wildlife refuges, and rangeland can be. Much like the amount of trash left behind from visitors. Some people are just plain stupid.

I drive through Joshua Tree National Forest every year on my way to visit New Mexico, and I love its stark natural beauty. If these bastards are found I would advocate them having their ankles tied to the back of a Jeep and then dragged cross country for a couple miles offroading across the Joshua Tree Flats down the same paths that they made. I do not think they would do it again. Of course, that is why no one puts me in charge of deciding punishment for destroying thousand-year old Joshua Trees.

I do not think they are stupid. They are just solipsistic and care only about their own entertainment. Kind of like those horrible Chinese tourists who defecate in public and like to touch centuries old paintings or climb on statues to have their pictures taken.

Call it what you want. Maybe uneducated would be a better word or not caring.

These aren't Chinese tourists doing this damage...Poor Joshua Tree...It is just too close and easy to get to from an urban area....The parks need security and maintenance....They need to keep it closed until to further notice

I have friends that travel extensively in southeast Asia for business and pleasure.

It used to be "ugly Americans".

Now its the horrid Chinese and Russians.

I went with my friends Thailand and Cambodia last year.

And they are right. You've never seen the like in America. Just constant horrid disrespect for everybody and everything.
