Nancy Pelosi: Democrats should skip the convention

By TIM MAK | 7/18/12 7:59 AM EDT Updated: 7/18/12 11:14 AM EDT

House minority leader Nancy Pelosi says Democratic members should stay home and campaign in their districts rather than go to the party’s national convention in North Carolina.

“I’m not encouraging anyone to go to the convention, having nothing to do with anything except I think they should stay home, campaign in their districts, use their financial and political resources to help them win their election,” Pelosi said in an exclusive interview for POLITICO Live’s “On Congress,” a new weekly show to be streamed live on POLITICO’s website and broadcast on NewsChannel 8 on Wednesdays.

The Democrat party is falling apart. They know what a dismal failure their majority in Government has been. GDP flat 2% or below, unemployment weekly claims up to 380,000+. How much more Jimmy Carter malaise can we take? The Democrats couldn't get the economy up and running in the late 1970's and they have shown over the last 4 years they still can't do it today. If your better off today then 4 years ago, then vote for Obama and the Democrats. If NOT vote then out of office in November.

Its amazing.. this dingbat Botoxed idgit is telling her lemmings to "not go "....thats priceless...
I wonder what its like to be a liberal... its gotta be tough to have no backbone and try to stand..

I wonder what's it's like to be a conservative hack and have nothing to offer except personal insults...

Just... WOW!

To date has Obama run a single add that was not an attack? One? The fact is the guy CAN'T run on his record because his record SUCKS. His shining accomplishment is Obamacare and, like, 60% of America opposes it! So I guess if personal insults and attacks aren't your thing, you might want to leave the TV off for the next 3-4 months because that is ALL the Democrats have left.

I don't know if this is a matter of party politics or Pelosi just not liking North Carolina.

She could be even more of a snob than she lets on.

I don't know why she said something like that , but I'm not reading it as "falling apart" (falling apart would look like 1968) but rather as another typical appeal for local Democrats to work their tails off for the next election to ensure that they do not lose Congress or their President. It's seems like one of those comments that tries to state that doing one thing is unproductive and the proposed alternative will get constructive results (sitting on the convention floor engaging in self-celebration not being productive, I suppose).

I really don't think they're falling apart. I think they know Obama's a winner, the Democratic Party wants to do everything in its power to win a majority in both houses...something that is very far from a sure thing. Gads. Just the thought.

Taking Nancy Pelosi seriously about anything she says in terms of it being good for anyone other than Nancy Pelosi is off the table.

She, like all the other suits up on The Hill are only scared of one thing....losing an election. The last major election, that tore out a bunch of democrats has the remaining ones running scared. They KNOW Dear Ruler is not popular. They KNOW the more they "have his back," the stronger chance their butts get tossed out like dirty bath water in November. The Democrat party isn't so much in disarray as they are in panicked "job security" mode.

Don't worry, neo-fascists....after November, the ones who keep their jobs will all dive right off that left side of the table again, only to crawl back onto it, near the next election.

Being that I live in North Carolina, I couldn't agree with Nancy more.

It WOULD be interesting to see a repub admin try to accomplish anything in the Age of the Filibuster.

All of this nonsense aboit Obama not accomplishing anything is just that. Nonsense.

While it won't happen, a democratic convention the size and scope of what they will have is of little use to democrats. The same could be said of any time a sitting potus is running for re-election. However, through it all there is an official nominating process, but that could still be done without all of the hoopla. I wonder if the sitting potus convention is just a way of equalizing the convention of the challenging party? In a certain way she is correct, as it does not establish much. It would be an odd gamble to tone it way down and do more local campaigning rather than a national snore fest.

About 89 percent of Obama’s ads in the 14-day period ended July 9 carried an anti-Romney message and 94 percent of Romney’s ads criticized Obama, <snip> Obama, Romney Bash Each Other With 90% Negative Ads - Bloomberg

It's a sad state of affairs when politics stoop to low levels never seen before. And it's only gonna get worse. Both sides are doing it. 94% of Romney's ads are negative and 89% of Obama's are negative. Romney has the mudslinging crown at the moment but with percentage numbers that high, neither candidate has any moral highground to stand on.

And it's just asnine stupid when I read people whining about Obama going negative. Wah, wah, wah. Look at YOUR candidate. 94% of his ads are negative. That 5% MORE than Obama.

We sure can tell it's election season around here, can't we?

It never changes. Politics has always been about slamming your opponent on the mat. The only thing that changes is the topics at hand. Actually, while people are complaining about how there are new lows in all of it, go back 100+ years and look at some of the brilliance of the campaign attacks of the time. without the 30 video creep clips, they had to be much more clever and do it all by words that were written and there were gems. Adams is a hideous hermaphroditical character with neither the force and firmness of a man, nor the gentleness and sensibility of a woman.”

“Jefferson is the son of a half-breed Indian squaw raised on hoe-cakes.”

Look for political attack ads throughout the history of POTUS and other political elections in the U.S. and you will find countless mind numbing attacks on character. The good old days of clean honest elections are only a myth told by elders of each party who feels that their party rose above it all. Hardly the case as each party has added immensely to the porta jon known as political attacks then and now. What had been done with words is now done by video, but other than that, nothing has changed except the candidates running.

Who's whining about Obama going negative? Not me, I say bring it on! The more he goes negative the more that opens the door for the opposition to rip his record to shreds... mercilessly.

And for the record, I don't consider attacking your opponents position on issues negative. So, at least to me, the stats you are using are more than a little skewed. But that is in the eye of the beholder...

Guess who's not coming to the Republican convention? George W. Bush! Wonder what that's all about. :lamo

Uh, his being consistent?

He didn't attend the 2008 convention either and has steadfastly said that he has retired from politics. I think you can believe him.

Bzzzzt!! What it's about is that he's still political poisen, even for years later. I can imagine the invitation: "I'm sure you're really busy and wouldn't want to come, but if you do, we won't instruct the guards to stop you at the door."

Whatever you say, Adam. I wouldn't dream of disabusing of you of your personal animus.

It doesn't take a lot of reading between the lines. Romney hasn't even sought W's endorsement ... even though he did a televised dog and pony show when he accepted his father's endorsement.

This I fully agree with, however my idea of accomplishments are in the direction of accomplishing failure, there is very little success accomplished by Obama.
