Surrounding the constitutional right to be free from government prohibitions of speech are all sorts of laws involving private property, contractual obligations, good faith, fair dealing, etc. If lies or conspiracies that are antithetical to free and fair elections are spread, the result is distrust of our electoral process and weakening of democracy. Our democracy cannot survive if it rejects evidence and supports conspiracy theories. Why would the first amendment end at the point of speech that you disagree with?
Just as an example. Imagine if people continued to believe such things as Hussein was conspiring to attack the United States with 'weapons of mass destruction'? That was a conspiracy theory that was initiated and pushed by the Bush Administration and look where that got us. You can guarantee we would not be much of a democracy if years later we believed that North Korea was conspiring to attack the US, along with Russia, Iran, etc. All conspiracies by the US government that thankfully people in general did not accept. Had they accepted them, we would be in the middle of WW3 and you can guarantee our democracy would be at stake.
A conspiracy theory isn't a 'theory' if it's based in fact, everyone knows that. Having the right to propagate lies under the shield of the First Amendment is, particularly by those who know they are lies, placing this country in a position of having to prove that every conspiracy theory is false rather than the conspiracy theorists having to prove it's true. Overall, false claims of a pedophile ring in the basement of a pizza place in D.C., or that Seth Rich was murdered by a secret cabal run by Hillary Clinton, brings danger to the lives of others as evidenced in the pizzagate conspiracy where a man believed the lie, went with an assault rifle intending to 'free' the children enslaved in the basement and willing to kill anyone who got in the way.
