Apologies for length of title. Directly from article. Conservative LDSers have always been a problem but this sounds more widespread.

  • DailyMail.com has combed through reams of court documents and spoken to around a dozen church members to expose the true scale of alleged abuse
  • Victims claim abuse is 'rampant', with the church facing legal action over allegations it consistently hides cases from police to avoid costly lawsuits
  • Their stories, which span decades, claim the church has allowed abusers to operate unchallenged, with women and children made to suffer as a result
Mormon leaders are 'covering up' an 'epidemic' of sexual abuse that rivals scandals exposed within the Catholic church, victims have alleged to DailyMail.com.

The Utah-based religion has repeatedly protected perpetrators and punished those who speak out in a bid to protect its reputation 'at all costs', it is claimed.

Victims believe abuse is 'rampant', with Mormon families said to be suffering 'extremely high rates of incest'.

Young girls subjected to horrific abuse say they are told to 'forgive' their assailants and discouraged from reporting it to the police.

Well, there's the fundamentalist-polygamist Mormons who are allowed to continue their misogynist ways even though polygamy is illegal. Who knows what other abuses go on with those folks.

They're as bad as the Scientology cultists and their abuses. A nastier bunch of control-freak thieves you couldn't hope to meet.

Good grief. The stories of those women are horrifying, esp. the alleged cover ups by the church and encouraging the victims to forgive their abusers.

Not surprising, I've long held the contention that Mormonism is just a step or two away from cult status which ends up a backbone to engaging in and covering up all sorts of abuses.

Worse than catholics.?

There's even spooky "Mormon themed" porn out there now too...

All religions were initially cults and some still are. When they finally become accepted by others of no religion or other religions, they are able to shake off cult status. But, IMO, they still are cults. Just accepted cults. And, I say this as a former member of an accepted cult.

Salt Lake City is sure in a beautiful valley though.

But start at Salt Lake City and travel west to the Utah state border and then travel another 100 miles into eastern Nevada.

That stretch is one of the driest and most desolate areas in the the United States with north-south mountain ranges, sagebrush plains, and salt flats.

Most of it is managed by the BLM.

It seems to be a mirror image of Catholicism. I'll stick with agnosticism.

And US 50 in that area is known as the Loneliest Road in America. But when I broke down on it, I found some of the Most Helpful People in America.

When do the raging white supremacist schizos with carte blanche to accuse the forum's liberals of pedo groomers show up in this thread?

I bet if they do, they'll beg for a nuanced approach to the discussion of institutionalized religious pedo groomers of what is almost entirely a right wing persuation.

There wont be any talk of banning books and accusing entire swathes of the forum of being pedos here.

😃

If they are adults why would you care?

What!? Certainly not the Mormons. What's next? Scientology is a scam and a cult and abuses the ever living shit out of their members?

"Warren Jeffs (born December 3, 1955) is an American religious leader who has been convicted of several sex crimes and two assisted sex crimes involving children. He is the "prophet" of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (FLDS Church), a polygamous movement which has no affiliation with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. In 2011, he was convicted of two felony counts of child sexual assault, for which he is serving a life sentence."

That's why.
