There is evidence that people who are fomenting the moral panic over sexual harassment have overplayed their hand.

Matt Damon recently commented on the matter on ABC News wherein he said that there is a spectrum of sexual harassment going from minor offences to major ones like rape, that all such behavior needs to be stopped, but that the punishment should fit the crime -- people should not be fired for doing something like patting someone on the butt while crimes like rape should get offenders prison sentences.

This resulted in a big outcry of outrage and a petition demanding that Damon be expunged from Hollywood and all his films burned, or some such.

But it's not happening, and pundits spanning the political spectrum from the comments at the New York Times to Fox News have stood up to say that Damon is being perfectly reasonable -- leave him alone.

In another example of over-reach Rose McGowan demanded that the news media stop using the term "allegedly" when writing stories bout women's accusations of sexual misconduct against men. In other words, she wants the men to be considered guilty without any question, and if you question it you're guilty, too.

But this is getting nowhere, either, because using the term "allegedly", or otherwise indicating that facts in a story have not been adjudicated, are a legal requirement, to protect against claims of libel. So McGowan is just being crazy, gone drunk with the power that the great moral panic has handed her. Allegedly.

But people are finally beginning to say, "Wait a minute..."

So perhaps a bunch of overheated Twitter users have not managed to drive us to irrational mob rule after all.

The fact that you consider women coming forward with their stories as 'irrational mob rule' says a lot about your own hyperbole, not the #metoo movement's.

Considering the pendulum is swinging, and we spent most of our history where women were hushed and shamed, now, it's time for the dominators to become hushed and shamed.

You sound intimidated.

So you're not after equality? Got it.

Well, with a self confessed sex abuser sitting behind the Resolute desk, why would there be anything to worry about with regards to degradation of women in this country? We all know that Trump simply views women with regards to how he views their physical attractiveness and little else. The minute that Ivana showed a little age, "boom" she was gone. Same thing with Marla Maples. If he lives long enough, he may well boot Melania as well.

So you favor mob rule and getting people fired for minor offenses all the time?

I certainly hope you're not in any position of authority.

Yes, it's mob rule when people like Damon get their careers destroyed for saying what he did. I can't imagine anyone approving of that sort of thing.

No, I find your hyperbole deafening. How is Matt Damon's career destroyed? Mob Rule is more like Mad Max. Where's the Mad Max in your fantasy? Let's blow some **** up! Burn some towns down, rape, pillage, and desecrate. If this is mob rule, they're doing it wrong.

How is that not equality?

It's eye for an eye.

The thing about eye for an eye laws... they don't apply to the offenders family or ancestors... just because someones grandfather stabbed your great grand mother.... doesn't mean you get to stab the grandfathers grandkids.

it is direct offenses... directly to the individuals who committed the offense. Bad analogy.

I swear.... you would get along with Kim Jong-Un with his 3 generation shame policies.

No, that's all a lie. Trump holds women with high regard and has elevated many of them to positions of responsibility in his businesses over the years. He made a woman who worked for his organization the first woman to be a general construction manager for a high rise project in New York City, for example. He gave her that job because she had the ability to stand up to contractors and get things done on time and under budget.

The media don't talk much about but there is a big and increasing movement #womenagainstfeminism, with many of them being an ex-feminist. And many of these women are threatened by feminist.

So you're not after equality? Got it.

As far as I can tell feminism is nothing that they claim to be. They first talk about equality to make it attracting to people call themselves as feminist. But than they go on and the talk become about how women and man can not be equal, men is a dangerous beast that has to be dominated, and often you hear them talking about "all men has to die". Their issue is against white western men and not about women. They want make women scared, insecure, powerless and claim that their movement is the only thing that can protect them, but they will say nothing against women being oppressed by fundamentalist Islamic families. They shout "I was raped" when a men say hello to them and dismiss women victims of real rape. This is the feminism that started with lesbians and transgenders and popularized by up class university students saying that thy are victmes of a tough world created by men. The feminism from 50s/60s was the very opposite, created by pos-war working class women claiming that the world is tough and women can be tough as well to deal.

Well, I just knew someone would come along and compare, the oppressors of women being held to account to dictators enforcing inhumane punishment. Good luck with your further attacks on all that is wholesome and decent.

Anyone that levels accusations without solid proof should be held responsible for lost income and other damages and/or punished for slander.

Damon's career isn't destroyed, but the mob whats it to be. That's what they are demanding.

And you don't have to have goons in hockey masks running around in the desert in souped up dune buggies to have a mob.

I can tell that it will be necessary to drag you into court and have the court teach you the value of other people's rights by extracting some of your wealth from you. It's a damn hard way to learn a lesson, but it can be arranged, as I expect some of the people driving this stampede to disregard the rights of all accused will eventually learn.

I'm not worried about money because I'm counting on those tax cuts to trickle down.

I guess it takes reminding that Trump has not only been accused of sexual harassment but bragged about it to remind Lowdown to try and spin the "#MeToo" movement as a raving mob.

Since you are obviously so terrified of having a woman bring something against you, how about this modest proposal: Let's adopt the Saudi Arabia rule, where it takes at least two women to accuse one man. Do you think you could accept that?

Indeed. I watched a video clip of what Matt Damon recently said, and it was quite reasonable, those attacking him simply aren't being reasonable.

It's eye for an eye.

Equality is equal rights, even the worst definition is equal outcomes. But you want to cause harm to innocents, you wish to discriminate, you want to be sexist; You're evil.

You are why people abhor feminism, why most women don't call themselves one, because you do not care about women's rights, you hate men.

[snip] the punishment should fit the crime -- people should not be fired for doing something like patting someone on the butt while crimes like rape should get offenders prison sentences. [snip]

A man lecturing women how offended they are allowed to be by which body part is grabbed and how? That, right there, is where many movements come from.

Why, it sounds like like when you were lecturing black people on their alleged duty to protest only in ways you find palatable (thereby robbing the act of protest of its point which was, well, rather the point).

Oh, and PS, the punishment does fit the crime. Grabbing someone's ass will get you a different charge and a different sentence than does raping that person, because duh.

Nevermind that the crime analogy is inherently dishonest. Voters deciding who to elect into a position of power =/= a jury deciding whether or not to allow the government to strip a citizen of liberty. Again, because duh.

How about plain American due process? I could accept that, but I doubt you would.

So you think that a pat on the but deserves the death sentence. Noted.

People are losing their jobs and their careers for a lot less than that, and with almost no evidence. So much for "fits the crime".
