Are there different kinds of citizens in the United States?

ops. That wasn't supposed to slip out between McConnell's lips when answering a reporter in public. There appears to exist a separation of African Americans and Americans after all. I'm sure that he didn't mean it.

At the news conference, reporter Pablo Manríquez asked McConnell what his message was for voters of color who are concerned about their voting rights ahead of November's midterm elections.

"Well, the concern is misplaced," McConnell replied. "Because if you look at the statistics, African American voters are voting in just as high a percentage as Americans."
That wasn't a slip. McConnell seldom says anything that is unscripted. That was a racist dog whistle. And it was deliberate.

"Poor kids are just as bright and just as talented as White kids." - Joe Biden

"...unlike the African American community, with notable exceptions, the Latino community is an incredibly diverse community with incredibly different attitudes about different things." - Joe Biden
Keep in mind that President Biden suffers frequently from bumbling awkwardly and gets royally thumped by the press and Republicans for his pains. Keep in mind also that McConnell never speaks unscripted or awkwardly, and often inserts into his remarks miserably hateful digs at people he dislikes.

A natural as I call it. Natural as in the norm.

I think this is a reasonable assessment. And the answer to the OP is "no." There is only one form of American citizenship and all citizens are equal under our Constitution.
That’s 💯 % not true with today’s nazified GOPutins and their apartheid gerrymandering along with their ‘fascist’ laws to change vote counts and eliminate minority voters.

OMG. Seriously? He obviously just stated that poorly. What a stupid thing to get in a twist about.

Doesn't this Bill say that African Americans are disenfranchised as compared to other American Voters ?....
And Don't the Americans of African decnet always segragate themselves by calling themselves African Americans ?....

You know the Racist DEM's think African Americans are incapable of getting a legal State ID to vote right?....

No Fake Outrage post of that blatant Racism?

P.S. Does anyone know what's actually in the Bill? They never lay it out to be eveluated by the Public, they just Scream that you are racist if you don't support it....

It's possibly more than just a twist. Deep seeded might better describe it. imo

Speaking as a Scot and British, we simply don't have these subdivisions of British-ness that American seem to have. That sounds self-contradictory, but essentially your nationality is British subject to the nation within Britain where you were born. Anything beyond that depends on your volunteering the information. If you leave America and visit a foreign country, such as the UK, any of you will be identified as an American. Your accent skin tone or where your great great grandma on daddy's side came from don't matter to us. (unless we can sell you a kilt or scarf or something!)
Heritage or ethnicity just isn't a thing that way in terms of describing someone. We don't hyphenate people

That's stupid, sorry. He clearly meant African Americans compared to Americans in general.

You hit the target by calling it correctly. McConnell could take lessons from you about how to say it. "other American voters".

That's stupid, sorry. He clearly meant African Americans compared to Americans in general.
Did McConnell personally explain that to you?

Here's what was printed,
"At the news conference, reporter Pablo Manríquez asked McConnell what his message was for voters of color who are concerned about their voting rights ahead of November's midterm elections.

I want to see the audio/video. It would be very much like the left media to have conveniently omitted the word "other" in their report. The left has done this so many times to shape the message they want and then claim "oversight" when they get caught.
But, even without it it's a nothing burger, he answered a question aimed at black voters.
Or kind of like, the other day, when someone posted a sole clip of Kamala saying, "No,it's time to keep doing the same things we are doing," in response to the question that dozens of people from the former administration keep saying covid responses are not working and it's time to change course right away, is that right? Do you think it's time to change course right away?" I recall a dozen posters parroting a fox partial clip and laughing and calling her comment dementia.

In this case, it is more a fraudulent slip, however, regardless of the context. The interviewer never deliniated between voters of color and Americans as Mitch did. I don't expect Fox to play the hand picked soundbite over and over as they did Kamala, though.

You know, it's easier to accept McConnell being who he is rather than make excuses for him.

Speaking to reporters after the bill failed and the Senate rejected a change to the filibuster rule that could facilitate its passage, McConnell was asked for his message to voters in minority communities who are concerned that voting restrictions being enacted in many states will keep them from the ballot box without new federal laws.

“The concern is misplaced, because if you look at the statistics, African American voters are voting in just as high a percentage as Americans,” McConnell said.

Former Kentucky state senator Charles Booker, who is campaigning for the US senate against Republican Rand Paul, tweeted: “I am no less American than Mitch McConnell” and also said: “I need you to understand that this is who Mitch McConnell is. Being Black doesn’t make you less of an American, no matter what this craven man thinks.”

The interviewer did do that. He asked about "concerns that people of color have about voting rights". McConnell, who just spoke about "Americans voting" obviously intended to say that African American Voters cast ballots at similar rates to other groups of Americans. He didn't bring up 'voters of color' - the reporter did.

Seems less like an accidental Freudian slip and more of a dog whistle to his rabidly racist trump base.

Damn their uppity hides. Don't "Those People" know their place and how to keep in it? The world went to hell in a hand basket when they made it illegal to knout the serfs.

"Poor kids are just as smart as white kids"- Joe Biden

Then why do they call themselves "African Americans" or "Mexican Americans".
Because those beat the hell out of the "Niggers" and "Spics" that the patriotic, right-thinking, patriotic, hard working, patriotic, honest, patriotic, real, patriotic, true, patriotic, conservative, patriotic, Christian, patriotic, White, patriotic, American, patriotic, patriots used to call them?

PS - You might want to know in addition to

African-Americans (many of whom have never actually been to Africa)
and
Mexican-Americans (many of whom have never actually been to Mexico)

that there are also (amongst others)

Irish-Americans (many of whom have never actually been to Ireland)
Japanese-Americans (many of whom have never actually been to Japan)
Muslim-Americans
Jewish-American
German-Americans (many of whom have never actually been to Germany)
Russian-Americans (many of whom have never actually been to Russia)
French-Americans (many of whom have never actually been to France)
Russian-Americans (many of whom have never actually been to Russia)
Vietnamese-Americans (many of whom have never actually been to Vietnam)

It is necessary to use those hyphenated terms so that all patriotic, right-thinking, patriotic, hard working, patriotic, honest, patriotic, real, patriotic, true, patriotic, conservative, patriotic, Christian, patriotic, White, patriotic, American, patriotic, patriots will be able to identify the people who are "different" (and therefore inferior).

That might make for an interesting thread about Joe Biden. This one is about Mitch McConnell. ;)
