After months of insisting they will not touch Medicaid, Republicans seem poised to do just that in their spending bill, under which 10.3 million recipients would lose coverage. Republicans want to impose work requirements and more frequent eligibility checks on enrollees. The bill would also require some recipients to pay for some of their coverage if they make more than the federal poverty level, which is $15,650 a year for a single adult.

What happened in Missouri is also what happened in Iowa, Ohio, and Indiana, and is now probably also happening in PA, WI, and MI. The Democratic party is, for whatever reason, no longer viable in less populated and typically whiter and more socially conservative but economically moderate regions in these states. I think they became viewed as a party that was more interested in dealing with diversity and social justice issues in major cities than they were about the welfare of these communities.
