Millions blocked from porn sites as free speech, child safety debate rages across US

It's like every left person here can't read.
PornHub is blocking Texas, not the other way around.
Texas dared to increase age verification requirements.... and this is bad?
Why exactly is that bad?

There are huge dangers of providing loads of personal information backed up by verified ID on the internet. Pornhub is probably one of the more reputable, this will drive people to more shadowy sites which is a greater danger.

we deny them the ability to purchase them in the store...how do you do that when its online and you don't really keep alcohol or cigarettes from minors either...they still find a way to get it.
Do I think you're going to be able to PREVENT kids from getting porn? Heck no. That doesn't mean that we need to nothing regarding making the process more difficult.

As we have seen, it's because porn, apparently, is "educational".

The requirements are bad for those states because now horny conservatives have to give out identifying information to access them. (Except PH which said 'shove off, we're pulling the plug on you.')

It's like conservative noobs can't read.

Libs have been fighting. For Pub states' right to privacy. Can you imagine?

In return we're told we want to show kids porn.

It's like every conservative here has zero comprehension skills and a whole lot of hysteria.

So, in the process we make it a thousand times easier for identity thieves to steal a person's identity?

Nothing like the government making choices for you because apparently people are like children and need government bureaucrats to make their decisions.
I'm not in favor of the law, but I believe that the point is that the Texas government thinks children are like children.

I'm not in favor of the law, but I believe that the point is that the Texas government thinks children are like children.

Let me fix that for you: "I'm not in favor of the law, but I believe that the point is that the Texas government thinks adults are like children."

So... it's not bad then, you just want to project something on other people - and then blame them for having an opinion you gave them.
Gotcha

question...how would Texas enforce these requirements for some internet business in Russia or some porn site located in Thailand? Texas kids can still access it correct?
So by that logic, we should drop all gun laws because people can still access guns.
Right?

The party that loves freedom and individual responsibility is once again at the forefront of tyranny.

Apples to oranges
Yes indeed we forbid minors from alcohol cigarettes and from buying guns but we don’t require the store to upload personal identifying things like a social security number and credit card online in a system that can be hacked by identity thieves

you proved nothing - attaching a "state" isn't proof of anything

cities consume porn and guess who's in the cities? liberals, more so than conservatives - but I suspect you knew that already

1. Orlando, Fla. Biden won heavy in 2020
2. Las Vegas Biden won heavy in 2020
3. Wilmington, Del. Biden won heavy in 2020
4. Raleigh, N.C. Biden won heavy in 2020
5. Charlotte, N.C. Biden won heavy in 2020
6. Minneapolis Biden won heavy in 2020
7. Atlanta Biden won heavy in 2020
8. Tampa, Fla. Biden won heavy in 2020
9. Anchorage, Alaska Trump won in 2020
10. Austin, Texas Biden won heavy in 2020

9 of 10 cities won by Biden in 2020 - most bigger cities are liberal/Democrat - they are the consumer of porn

democrats came out on top, watching 13% more porn on average.
An interesting interpretation of non-relevant data.

I don't say that it is the case, but if all of the porn consumers in (let's say Orlando) are Republicans, the fact that most of the voters are Democrats doesn't prove that it is the Democrats who are consuming the porn - does it.

Get back to us when you have some actual demographics of porn consumers.

PS, the same applies to those who say that the Republicans are the major consumers of porn, because I don't think that the porn sites require that a user provide certifiably correct information on which party they vote for.

that's true - but same can be said that if a state is 60% conservative and a large consumer of porn, it might just be the 40% liberals consuming the majority of it

I don't think I made the claim that porn is consumed by conservative states, what I DID show was that the big cities in conservative states are also the big consumers of porn and also are liberal ..... there are dots there to be connected and shouldn't be ignored

I thought that I had sort of made that point when I suggested that BOTH sides of the "debate" would be well advised to produce some reliable statistics concerning the political leanings of the ACTUAL consumers of porn rather than simply relying on surveys which don't even touch on that point.

And there are dots that are not connected at all. Not only that, but sometimes the "dots" are of different sizes so treating them as if they were all the same size gets really silly.

In the above,
  • there are four "consumers" ("A", "B", "C", and "D")
  • divided into two groups ("1" and "2")
  • as well as eight different "consumption scenarios" ("a" through "h").
In each "consumption scenario" the number of TOTAL "porn units" consumed is 4.

The only information that you have is that there are 4 "porn units" being consumed.

Based on the information that you have, which of the "consumption scenarios" correctly describes whether Group 1 or Group 2 consumes the most porn?

This thread is a great example how mass hysteria is now common in America.
Everyone is so divided, their judgement on an issue is 100% driven by what party, or side did the deed.

Texas passes legislation to make it harder for children to view pornography - something you would think anyone would support, but nooooooo out comes the strawman attacks - diversion.. and just plain nuts.

Jesus - no wonder this country has these two men as our choice for President.
We deserve it.

except it doesn't make it harder to view it and it makes it easier for identity thieves to target you.

Which is why I said before and I'll say it again, regarding this thread and this issue:

Texas is the one making these requirements.

Let Texas deal with it. They can upload their driver's license and have to send that information any time they want to get off online.

If they don't like it then they can deal with it themselves, without libs to hide behind and then pont at later on while pretending to be the morally upstanding ones.

End of story.

Age verification, even online, is common. If I want to order alcohol or tobacco I have to verify that I'm of legal age to do so.

you do realize they aren't opposed to age verification...they are opposed to the government requiring them to keep identifying information for each person....that is wrong...because it sets them up for liability if they are hacked and someone's information is exposed or someone is exposed online as to using porn (think smear campaign, divorce cases, etc..or identity theft....think someone stealing your information to get a credit card, mortgage, to steal your house out from under you....this all happens when these sites are hacked and porn sites would be a prime target for identity thieves

FFS, the IRS was hacked a few years ago and so was OMB. A TON of retail stores have been hacked. Basically, if you use a credit card you're a prime target for getting hacked and one vendor isn't more of a target than others.

yes, and when hacked those places are SUED for it....most no longer store your credit card information....and you have the option to not be on autopay...also, it is very rare that any of those sites would require you to also have a live copy of your driver's license, picture included along with that credit card and your ssn. The IRS has your SSN blocked and they do not require you upload your ID.
