Military brats mostly luv 'em all of course. From up into the Control Tower to back down to the Fire Station the cadets go. CAP and Air Force cadets march well on grass which we also see in the videos below.

The vid includes a graduation brief snippet when the cadets march to each service signature tune which was unheard of and never a crazy thought back when old timers such as myself were in. Presently with the combined force and total battle space dominance where the whole force is integrated in sync it's natural to march to the tunes of the other services. Back when I was in the Army if you wanted to march to the Marine's Hymn for instance they'd probably put you under observation so it just wasn't a thought.

In the graduation snippet the fireplug cadet adjutant gal does the traditional double quick pace on the field to her position. It always looks weird which is why I mention it. Parade formations across nations are based on old time battle formations and field maneuvers and the adjutant is central to it. The adjutant sets up the formation then and now, then presents it to the, in this case of course, cadet commander.

Yes, these cadets march well on unkempt grass which is like marching in a vegetable garden no matter who, what, where. In the next video which is the pass in review only we also see the excellent marching by even the fats and the three footers who keep up well with the rest of 'em. The lone cadet marching btw is the battalion commander. In the AF a company is called a squadron.

What's always ticked me off about the camera operators in this to include military media people is that they like to position their camera at a turn. They do this because they think it's better than recording a straight line march. They're nuts. The turn is one of the worst maneuvers in marching. Instead, and as with the video in scrolling of the USN Junior ROTC of Mara Vista High School pass in review, the straight line view is the right one to do and show. It's only after a turn that the unit is able to square itself away again to march at its best.

West Point of the West | Parents Weekend | Cadet Brigade March Out

The New Mexico Military Institute was established in 1891 as a public military High School and Junior College in Roswell, New Mexico. Known as “the West Point of the West,” the school enrolls nearly 1,000 ROTC cadets at the junior college and high school levels each year from 45 states, 2 U.S. territories (Puerto Rico and American Samoa), and 35 foreign nations.

Our mission is to educate, train, and prepare young men and women to be leaders capable of critical thinking and sound analysis, leaders who possess uncompromising character, and leaders able to meet challenging physical demands.

The Linden High School Naval Junior ROTC held a dignified change of command ceremony on May 13, revealing the commanding officer for the 2019-20 school year, as well as the regimental staff, known as the “Top 12,” which will lead the unit through the next school year. A triannual certification inspection of the Naval Science Program was conducted by a team of active duty personnel led by Commander Robert Ballard, executive officer of Navy Talent Acquisition Group, Empire State.

IMG_5722-1024x447.jpeg

Ten Linden High School NJROTC graduating cadets were honored during their inspection and ceremony for having committed to join the U.S. Military after graduation. They were joined on the floor by their families and special guests. Twelve graduating cadets will continue on to college ROTC, Naval mostly.

Linden NJROTC in NJ is an upper ranked program for its consistent quality, community service and large enrollment. Indeed, the Senior Naval Science Instructor is a USN Commander retired (Lt.Col.) and the principal enlisted instructor is a USN Master Chief retired. While the standard rank for high school ROTC is Naval LT or Captain for other junior ROTC military branch units, the Honors Units (top 10%) get the higher rank instructors in charge. During the draft active duty officers and NCOs of the large force were assigned as instructors in charge.

Since the fewer in number (and higher in quality) All Volunteer force in 1973 junior ROTC instructors are drawn from the retired ranks. The actively sponsoring high school whether it is public or private pays the difference between the retired pay scale and the active duty pay scale, in addition to providing the quality facilities and support for the program that must meet regular force standards on inspection by regular force officers and NCO.

"Outstanding inspection by each and every cadet! Take a few minutes to watch the video to see the pride we have in our Marine Corps Junior ROTC program and cadets. It was an incredible day for the inspection. OOH - RAH!"

This is the MMA annual inspection of Marine Corps Junior ROTC programs nationally by the USMC Teaching & Education Command that authorizes and certifies JROTC programs at public and private schools and academies. So in addition to the Colonel superintendent and Sergeant Major who we know already we have NCO from TECOM conducting the inspection.

The second cadet we see inspected has the single silver diamond of MC ROTC rank insignia indicating c/Major which means he's on the brigade staff and it's his graduation year. Company commander rank is c/Captain = three round silver "pips" also in his graduation year. We also see a couple of c/2LT platoon leaders which is a single round silver pip -- one of 'em is a pretty sharp dude. ROTC cadet officers across the services are in their graduation year as it's rare indeed not to be.

"Eight veterans of the Battle of Iwo Jima attended the parade along with other veterans and citizens of the Rio Grande Valley. The weather was absolutely beautiful. We hope you enjoy the video."

Ha the cadets had to do this with their rifles ha ha. Back when, we cadets did everything with our rifles yet in these videos it's rare that cadets do anything with their rifles unless it's the drill team. They complain that it hurts after a while or it's a big bother so whether its junior or senior ROTC cadets today are exempted from doing ceremonies and parades with rifles. So of course they're not used to marching with rifles.

In the vid the always tiny MMA band does a musical number then the chief cadet and his staff of brigade all stars march into position. The adjutant on staff moves to his command position at the band to command "Sound Attention" then to "Sound Adjutant's Call" meaning begin the march onto the field to him. Parade formations are based on old time battle lines and the gorilla warrior who sets it all up right before beginning the battle came to be called the adjutant (by the French).

Although in present times females are included of course in the position of adjutant the tradition calls for a big guy who sounds off because he's got a pair. There's also the traditional old time Officers Center Front march (rarely done any more) then the pass in review. Music is National Emblem March by Col. John Phillips Sousa, post WW I commander of the Marine Band Washington who composed it for the Marines but not only, although Marines play it into the ground ha. It's a German style strut march without the OTT heavy drama.

Encampment challenges you. It pushes you so you’ll grow. Are you self-disciplined? Can you lead? Can you truly work as a team? These are some of the questions the cadre will help you answer for yourself as you participate in awesome, hands-on activities and tours. Specifically, our goal is to inspire you to develop leadership skills, learn about aviation, space, and technology, commit to a habit of regular exercise, and live the Core Values. As cadets of the U.S. Air Force Auxiliary, your training will emphasize not only leadership and character, but fitness and STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) as you explore career opportunities in those areas and so much more.

Given my original thread "Cadets In Training: U.S. Allies & Enemies Prepare" is snafued in technical hangups I'm opening this extension of it so that the thread and topic may continue, or, as is more the case, resume. The apparently indefinitely sidelined thread -- removed from public access -- has 42K+ hits and more than 500 posts since I opened it in December 2018 so I wanted to be sure a measure of it could continue.

I want to thank Schweddy for his personal attention to the snafu in the original cadet thread, and for his patient communications with me in his efforts to resolve the technical issues that are apparently affecting the DP domain too. While I lost access to page 22 of the thread, I was able to resume posting to it into page 24 before Schweddy contacted me to advise me the thread had to be pulled and investigated so it could be restored. So, in the meantime and for whatever period of time that may require....

I'm refreshing in this first extension post three specific posts I'd made about the Hong Kong Corps of Cadets (Army) Adventure Corps and its Bravo Squadron Guard of Honour that has guardianship of the guidon of the former Royal Hong Kong Regiment of Volunteers. The RHKR (V) originated in 1854 and was dissolved in 1995 as part of the UK-CCP Agreement that HKG be returned to the sovereignty of the CCP-PRC. The Royal Hong Kong 75th Infantry Regiment of Chinese volunteers was commanded by officers of the Royal British Army Force. The 75th fought magnificently with the British in many battles and alone made the final and fierce defense of Hong Kong in December, 1941.

The HKG Adventure Corps of Cadets is the successor organization to the Regiment's Cadet Youth League that was a feeder force to the Regiment itself. The sacred guidon of the former RHKR Cadet Youth League is the guidon passed on to the Bravo Squadron Guard of Honour and the Adventure Corps Cadet Force. The guidon of the Regiment and of the Cadet Youth League are one and the same of course, and now, by Royal Command of HM The Queen, the HKG Cadet Adventure Corps has the guidon under the guardianship of the Bravo Squadron Guard of Honour.

My next post will be of the Regiment itself marching with the guidon and of the Cadet Youth League itself parading with the guidon after being inspected by the cadre Major commander of the six companies of the Regiment's cadet youth league force. These videos go back to the early 1990s

All cadets of the Adventure Corps know this history and they know it well.

Notably btw, Hong Kong Cadet Force as a whole does not observe national anthems, national colors/banners in its ceremonies, training, meetings, while all commands are given in English. The marching and ceremonial manual of the HKG cadet force, ie, Army Adventure Corps, Air Cadets, Sea Cadets, is British right down to the bagpipes and the open palm salute and so on. The field training manuals remain the British armed forces sources for Adventure Corps, Air Cadet Corps, Sea Cadet Corps. Indeed, cadets, cadre, parents and supporters want nothing to do with the PLA or the mainland Chinese military. Absolutely nothing. Whatsoever.

Doesn't count.

Alas this is the definitive classic of the Canadian Sea Cadet Corps performing for three nights at the Vancouver Expo 86 in July of 1986. It's the uniquely Canadian Ceremony of the Flags that features the SCC national band, two companies of Guards assembled from throughout British Columbia and beyond, the flags detail of the 11 provinces and two territories, two SCC Boer War Era cannon crews and the national colors of Canada and the Canadian SCC.

The video was posted in 2013 to YouTube much to the delight of participants and commoners alike given many personal copies had been lost, damaged, destroyed or whatever. This performance is memorable for many due to its magnificence and grandeur, its stunning precision and its overall brilliance -- a once in a lifetime viewing and performing experience indeed.

Especially remarkable is the Drum Major Trevor Scoville whose name became a legend among the Sea Cadet Corps. His genius at manipulating his baton with ease won widespread attention. His master stroke is the baton toss into the air for three revolutions and receiving it without losing a stride of his step or while stationary and not having to move at all or not noticeably. My own comment is how he spins the baton around his neck as if it were a natural movement. His solo fast and flashy performance is awesome, looking all the while like he was just doing his duty.

Even the three volleys fired by the 60 cadet guards are three perfect single shot sounds which is one for the books for sure. HMCS btw indicates His Majesty's Canadian Ship.

*I could not believe some one had this, my copy was destroyed, brings me back can't believe it's been 36yrs. I watched some more current videos of the Ceremony of the Flags -not even close, we did some long nights preparing for that year. I remember Trevor Scoville Drum Major unfortunately I can not remember the guy in the glasses or the girl I should remember them, hey its been 36 yrs

*I was at HMCS ACADIA at the time in the band. best time of my life.

*This brings back HUGE memories for me! I was in the Guard for this Ceremony at Expo 86. At HMCS Quadra [camp] I was a Staff Cadet - Petty Officer 1st Class working in the Boatshed for the summer of 85 & 86. Thank you to Bev Horning Bonner (OCdt Horning that Summer) for sharing this video with me.

*Had summer training at Quadra as a USN SCC in the 70's, lots of training and fun on the YP s. My copy died years ago. Loved it! Sail on RCSCC.

*Who was the drum major ? Bravo Zulu too all. (well done)

*I agree, great performance! Trevor Scoville was the DM. He was one of the best that Sea Cadets ever saw.

*Back when the band major actually used the mace. now just a show piece. They hardly use it at all.

*I'm a sea cadet, so many things have changed, the uniforms too....

Rockvale High School in Rockvale TN competes at the 2023 JROTC Raiders National Challenge at Fort Knox KY. Indeed since the 1990s Army Cadet Command at Ft. Knox has had a National Raider Battalion that focuses on the physical and mental aspects of discipline and training. The National Raider Battalion is voluntary for a sponsoring JROTC school to participate in, and membership of the Raider unit at the school is voluntary. Each year there are rounds of the "challenge" among JROTC Raider units at the county, state, regional and then national finals at Ft. Knox. This is a video of one such school and its all male and all female teams delivering together on the requirements of the "challenge" to include some pretty good trophies at the end.

"It is with great pride that we honor our brightest and most dedicated cadets and students of the month. These cadets come from around the world to the "one and only" Marine Military Academy. OOH - RAH"

Yeah, so anyway....Col. Hill the superintendent started the event off by his usual brand of humor, saying to the cadets seated in comfy chairs that "you look like you're having a tooth extracted" which is so bad it's a bit funny. My God I do remember these things at high school and at uni when some were uncomfortable while at other times not so much so. I said back then and I still do say, you need an NCO at these dinners to make things real. This dinner anyway gets better as it goes along, thanks mainly to Col. Dowling and a couple of really together cadets one of whom wants the Naval Academy and the other wants the Air Force academy, plus a few other real people cadets, one of whom sounds like a professional laugher but is genuine. Col. Dowling won 'em over with his strong and sincere advice about fellowship and networking. There's also a cadet who said he's from Saigon South Vietnam, which passed without comment.

According to the program, this short performance is from the Annual Birmingham International Tattoo held at the Birmingham Arena, with an audience of around 15,000 people. The Tattoo features regular force bands from NATO member states and UK cadet bands and marchers of the UK Combined Cadet Corps of the Army Force, RN, RAF.

The Corps of Drums feature with a static performance at the start, followed by Roll Tide, Holyrood, The Final Countdown, and of course the RAF March Past In Review,"We Shall Be Free" for the March Off. The cadets have very little time to rehearse, arriving on Friday evening and quickly having to practice the music as well as learn a marching drill, with only one dress rehearsal before putting on two displays on the Saturday.

The UK Commonwealth of Australia RAF cadets of Keswick Barracks execute their end of year parade with the farewell message of the base commander Lt.Col. who speaks for a whole minute ha. Once the squadron is formed up on the field the AUS RAF cadet corps colors are marched in and the color bearer troops the line with the sacred colors of the Australia RAF Corps of Cadets.

A parent does this video and a good job of it even though we get a lot of focus on the son in the formation. Nothing's lost by it however as the son is probably the #3 sharp cadet of the unit exceeded only by the color bearer as #1 and the male color guard as #2. I like the chief cadet with his sword commanding because although he's scrawny he wears the uniform well and is a cool and confident cadet leader. He and his 2nd in command are out front of course. I note ha the British manuals used by Commonwealth nations too seem to have a paragraph of speechmaking to say as the preparatory command then we get the one or two word command of execution. :giggle:

I have of course posted numerous cadet RAF videos to my two cadet threads this one being my second cadet thread after the first one vanished into the ether. Until right now you've missed both of the threads so I thought I'd advise you to avoid posting mishaps that were perfectly avoidable anyway.

widely and very popular march tune taken from the American movie of 1969 "The Battle of Britain" that focused on the RAF and the American volunteer Eagle Squadron that flew with the RAF against the Luftwaffe in 1940, before the US entered WW II. In the movie the tune was The Luftwaffe March but its popularity resulted in it being remarketed and published in the U.S. as Aces High of the RAF. With the name change the tune caught on in Europe where it was widely purchased once the Luftwaffe thingy was dropped. In the UK the tune is aka Hollyrood.

Annual Trafalgar Day Commemoration | Trafalgar Square London

First Post Covid Full On Ceremony | Edited Performance & Review

The Massed Bands of the Sea Cadets community based program lead the annual National Commemoration of the Battle of Trafalgar at Trafalgar Square, London.

The Sea Cadet Corps that is assigned by the Royal Navy Admiralty to commemorate the RN victory at Trafalgar in 1805 had its first post Covid performance in 2022, but it was sparse due to a number of cadets who aged out in 2020 and in 2021 during lockdowns. That is, while cadets got aged out of the community based SCC, the new oldest cadets had no or precious few regular meetings to ply their continuing seamanship during the deadly plague.

Cheerfully however the band is back full on as are most of the cadet units that participate in the annual commemoration. The SCC Physical Training Program Display Team is back too, if fewer than in its typical number. This video is abbreviated by editing. Cadets are marching to the Square from their Horse Guards Parade (grounds) assembly area behind Trafalgar; the video concludes with the March Back to their base at Wellington Barracks on the Palace grounds for a Garden Party on the Palace lawn hosted by Princess Anne, Admiral of the Sea Cadets (not shown).

Ever wonder what life is like aboard the Sea Cadets Flagship TS Royalist? Here's a look into her regular training tours at sea! Twenty-four cadets in their turn for six days year round. SCC has several training brigs in various ports.

Brave kids, no way I'd want to do that.

"Old Ironsides" the USS Constitution sets sail each July 4th to turn around in its permanent drydock, Boston Harbor

BOSTON (July 4, 2023) USS Constitution goes underway in Boston Harbor in celebration of Independence Day. USS Constitution, is the world’s oldest commissioned warship afloat, and played a crucial role in the Barbary Wars and the War of 1812, actively defending sea lanes from 1797 to 1855. The active-duty Sailors stationed aboard USS Constitution provide free tours and offer public visitation to more than 600,000 people a year as they support the ship’s mission of promoting the Navy’s history and maritime heritage and raising awareness of the importance of a sustained naval presence. USS Constitution was undefeated in battle and destroyed or captured 33 opponents. The ship earned the nickname of Old Ironsides during the war of 1812 when British cannonballs were seen bouncing off the ship’s wooden hull. (U.S. Navy Photo by Airman Austin Jean/Released)

HARTLEPOOL SEA CADETS

Hartlepool Sea Cadets Royal Navy Parade was a splendid occasion. I joined the Mayor and Mayoress of Hartlepool, Cdr Farmer RN Rtd: Northern Area Officer, parents and family members of the cadets at the Heritage Quay in Hartlepool. We could not have had a better evening; the sun was shining and HMS Trincomalee looked magnificent.
Following inspection on HMS Trincomalee we toured the displays and stands manned by the Sea Cadets which showed the diverse range of activities they have been doing.
I am greatly encouraged to see our Cadet forces continue to grow and flourish providing positive experience for the development of our young people. Last night provided an excellent opportunity to the cadet’s inaction and for me to be able to thank the amazing volunteers who support them for all they contribute.
