Mike Waltz claims ‘full responsibility’ for Signal chat group leaked to journalist

The funny thing about this whole situation is that for all of the crackpot conspiracy theories about hacked contacts lists being shopped around desperately by @Mycroft, he misses the most obvious likely explanation: Mike Waltz is a past informant / source for Jeffrey Goldberg.
That's a very good point.

But you just said:

Is it a big deal or not?
Are you asking me or Paradoxical?

I'd say it IS a big deal if someone inserted the reporter's phone number in the contact for some other person in Waltz's Signal app.

its a big deal regardess, using signal to discuss this.
and not verifying all the attendees, which would have caught the mistake.

The app you're claiming as certified secure.

Got a link to that certified secure bullshit yet.

You are ignoring something very important that Waltz said...that the contact in the Signal app had one person's name and, instead of their number, it had that reporter's number. Yes, Waltz is doing the right thing and taking full responsibility for this happening, but he knows HE didn't do that and you can be damned sure he's going to find out who did.

I would hate to be that person.
The real question is why the group was using the Signal app in the first place.

A "simple data entry error"? That just so happened to be the number of one of the most aggressive media Trump haters? I don't think so.

It might be handled quietly, but I think that would be a mistake. I think this should be broadcast to the world. The perpetrator should be totally exposed to the public. EVERYONE should learn the lesson that ****ing around with the Trump administration like this is happening and that it won't be tolerated.
Even when MAGA heads completely screw up; all the MAGA members can do is wish for obedience. Tells you all you need to know about what MAGA is.

Who is going to take responsibility for using Signal for official government communications to begin with?

This is not quite the case for @Mycroft. For him the real question is how he can best spin some conspiracy theory to put all the blame on Trump’s enemies while portraying Donald in the best possible light. Based on this thread, he’s struggling to come up with an answer. Lower level MAGA really ought to sit tight and wait for the media to give them their talking points. This “somebody hacked Waltz’s contacts!” bit isn’t as zany as his wild claims about electoral fraud, but it’s close.

The Signal app isn't the problem. It is certified by all the government security agencies as being secure.

The problem is that someone manipulated the app and inserted false contact information into it.

I would hate to be that person. They are about to be in a world of hurt.
Um no it’s not. Certified by the government is using the government’s secure network and not a public commercial network they don’t control. If you need more assistance up is not down.

If it's that easy to insert someone's phone number in an app, perhaps the national security advisory should not be using it to discuss anything related to him job.

Ah, but you have to understand that MAGAs want the President and all his unqualified dumbasses to use communication methods where even MAGAs can't do FOIA requests that then crush MAGAs/their families/their communities.

Apparently accountability is only for Democrats.

Or perhaps the NSA should be having a heart to heart talk with the person who put that number in his app.

That could be one explanation, and if so, it could have been a simple data entry error (wrong phone number), or it could have been malicious, or maybe even something else. Who knows?

My guess is that it'll be handled internally and quietly, as would be most appropriate.
Your guess is way better than the Democrats' performative circus show this morning in front of the whole world.
