The 1st Amendment was written to specifically prevent what you're proposing. Only the most despotic countries on the planet penalize 'wrong' views. Be glad you don't live in one.I am saying that we need to agree that there are Right views and there are Wrong views.
Pence wants businesses free to refuse to serve gay people. There's a lot better case for a business refusing to serve him. He's not censored - he can post on the internet. Should they have any standards for who they publish?
I think the Canadanians got it right:The 1st Amendment was written to specifically prevent what you're proposing. Only the most despotic countries on the planet penalize 'wrong' views. Be glad you don't live in one.
There are limits, and in the process of taking back our democracy we need I think to be a little bit assertive.Freedom of expression in Canada is protected as a "fundamental freedom" by Section 2 of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. The Charter also permits the government to enforce "reasonable" limits. Hate speech, obscenity, and defamation are common categories of restricted speech in Canada. During the 1970 October Crisis, the War Measures Act was used to limit speech from the militant political opposition.
Well, to be honest, I think you are already a little confused- you don't need help. Most libraries and bookstores have books on just about all views ever expressed. Not sure why we need to have statues to all views ever expressed though.Don't try and confuse me. I spelled it out quite clearly.
I am saying that we need to agree that there are Right views and there are Wrong views.
And a book publisher needs to become aware of this as well.
I already said we are on the same side since you support getting rid of the statues set up to glorify slavers, *Christian* conquerers and other open haters. I think we need to get a bit more bold as things go forward and we take back our democracy. Not sure why we need to have statues to all views ever expressed though.
...or, we could say statues are not for remembering, but expressing honor only for those whom we want to honor.I already said we are on the same side since you support getting rid of the statues set up to glorify slavers, *Christian* conquerers and other open haters. You are not going to be tearing down any statues anywhere near me, buddy. Now that I have come out the other side -- oh I admit i was in a rough patch a few minutes ago but I changed -- I will not stand by while the enraged mob tears down statues illegally....or, we could say statues are not for remembering, but expressing honor only for those whom we want to honor.
This is really not that hard.
And the Taqueria stays! This is really not that hard.
Slow news day?Yes-- and its noteworthy that employees of a company that publishes books is against the publication of this book.
Nobody is forcing anyone to publish anything. Publishers reject thousands more books than they publish. But we should force someone to publish it?
Business is business. Those that disapprove of Pence don’t have to buy the book.I'm curious as to how people feel about this. Simon & Schuster has pushed back against employees who want Pence's book deal cancelled. I'm with the publisher on this one.

Sure. Already on it.You are not going to be tearing down any statues anywhere near me, buddy. Now that I have come out the other side -- oh I admit i was in a rough patch a few minutes ago but I changed -- I will not stand by while the enraged mob tears down statues illegally.
You cannot allow mobs to enforce their will like that. They have to go through the proper channels.
As Allen tried to point out to us this is the sort of thing that goes on in totalitarian countries. So, I do not for one second by the 'state of emergency' story.Sure. Already on it.
Stoney says he has the powers to remove the statues immediately because of powers he holds during a declared state of emergency.
In an interview Wednesday afternoon with NPR, Stoney said he had moved quickly to remove the statue for public safety and other reasons.
"We've had 33 days of unrest," the mayor said. "It's time. It's time to move beyond the lost cause and embrace the righteous cause. We can be more than just the capital of the Confederacy. It's time for us to be the capital of compassion."
What country in the world, totalitarian or otherwise, do you know that feels it has to have statues of every historical figure so they don't forget? As Allen tried to point out to us this is the sort of thing that goes on in totalitarian countries. So, I do not for one second by the 'state of emergency' story.
And this "time to move beyond the lost cause and embrace the righteous cause" is obviously a fib if it is not a lie.
I allowed myself to be deceived a few minutes ago and struggled through it! You are not going to fool me again.
I suggest a bit of critical self-examination Ataraxia.
Free market. If you don't support the guy just don't buy his book. If you really feel against this just don't support the publisher anymore.
The Publisher will want something juicy in there and Pence might hold a grudge after Trump's mob tried to kill him.
Have to side with the publisher on this one. I'd say to the employees...the economy is coming back and there are lots of jobs coming. If you believe what you are saying, and I believe they are speaking truth to power...I hope a stack of them quit on publishing day.I'm curious as to how people feel about this. Simon & Schuster has pushed back against employees who want Pence's book deal cancelled. I'm with the publisher on this one.

Good for the publisher. I wish they'd do this more often. They should fire ever employee that calls for cancelling publishing books and replace them. The left are the modern day book burners.I'm curious as to how people feel about this. Simon & Schuster has pushed back against employees who want Pence's book deal cancelled. The publisher can hardly do that without appearing quite hypocritical don't you think?Good for the publisher. I wish they'd do this more often. They should fire ever employee that calls for cancelling publishing books and replace them.
Have you not read this thread? Everyone on the left here is backing the publisher's position. The left are the modern day book burners.
Friginia, Yansansara, Boolavia, Smitzen, Chood just off the top of my head. What country in the world, totalitarian or otherwise, do you know that feels it has to have statues of every historical figure so they don't forget?
Yeah really. I suspect your biggest dilemma is going to be deciding between one lump of sugar or two. Wow. My heart bleeds for your terrible plight.Friginia, Yansansara, Boolavia, Smitzen, Chood just off the top of my head.
They realized they were all forgetful people so they monumentalized everything.
Be that as it may I am now back on your side. All these hateful, wicked, regressive monuments must be turned to scrap!
Heaven only knows what will come over me near tea-time!

No, it is more serious. One side of me wants to send you to Joe Arpaio's Attitude Adjustment Center in the desert.Yeah really. I suspect your biggest dilemma is going to be deciding between one lump of sugar or two. Wow. My heart bleeds for your terrible plight.
