Michelle Bachman: Welfare Queen

Conservatives tend to run politics like a corporation - it's not about being honest, it's just about telling the people what they want to hear in order to promote your party. That's why I think that conservatism and politics aren't a good mix.

Not quite right, but close. Conservatives talk about running politics and government like a business, until they get into power. Once there, however, they act just like they guys they claim were so bad, and the reason they needed to be elected.

In other words, they talk a good game, but their implimentation sucks.

Bachmann criticizes Michelle Obama about breastfeeding - On Politics: Covering the US Congress, Governors, and the 2012 Election - USATODAY.com
"I've given birth to five babies and I breast fed every single one," Bachmann said. "To think that government has to go out and buy my breast pump. ... That's the new definition of a nanny state."

If 90 percent of new moms in America breastfed for six months, say researchers in this month's edition of the journal Pediatrics, over $13 billion would be saved each year in combined health care costs, including fewer infections and fewer doctors visits, and indirect expenses, like missed work.

Last week, the Internal Revenue Service finally agreed to allow 2010 taxes to reflect the costs of pumps and milk bags, as all the myriad ways in which to maintain breastfeeding while working or on the road can make "free" suddenly cost quite a bit of cash. That means women with flexible spending accounts can use their pre-tax dollars to pay for nursing supplies. Those who itemize can add them in to their health care costs.

Tax deduction for breast feeding equiptment is a nanny state? Bachman for president. Yee-haa

There are some thoughts that I simply do not want in my head. Now I see Bachman with her offspring. I need a brain wash.

Making these items qualify for flex spending and itemized medical deductions does not mean the government is buying breast pumps for people.. How dense can one person be?
I think the breast pump she used may have sucked some of her brain out.

LOL.

General welfare doesn't mean Government runs everything. Really, trying to use a phrase (and COMPLETELY out of Context to the Founders beliefs I might add) shows how little you understand the Constitution or what is was written for.

That arrogance says people are too stupid to be free to live their own lives.

I remember a law professor's comment years ago

Q: how can you tell if someone is clueless about the constitution

A: claiming that the general welfare clause was intended to create or support a welfare state

I am waiting for the libs to claim that housing and medical care are really "free speech" and then claim the First amendment demands both be given to the poor

No, it means the general welfare. Exactly like it says. It is not out of context one bit. It is what it is. The constitution gave the government the power to determine general welfare.
Unlike you I do know what the constitution was written for. To set up the government, define the government and protect basic rights of the people.

ah another statist who believes that all congress has to do to gain whatever power it wants is to declare that the legisation is for the general welfare

tell me how did that work in the lopez case (1995)

sorry, despite FDR's corrupt judges, the tenth amendment does exist

I wonder if women who decide to breastfeed still get WIC. Or does WIC pay for the pumps, milk bags, etc. while not giving the voucher for formula? I would hope that even women that breastfeed that cannot afford other things like juice, etc, still get WIC.

While I will not argue that is free speech? I will argue that life and happiness is a part of our Declaration of Independence and if we cannot get it on our own? That the gov should help us out:2razz:

Who is it that makes that claim?

Amen brother. That is exactly it. The general welfare is one thing that the Constitution talks about. Conservatives railing about welfare programs is a horse of a different color. When they try to pass off one as the other its disingenuous in the extreme and they should darn well know better.

Not to mention she should be embarrassed for having 5 children. Way to contribute to over population. How about saving money by not pumping out a baby every other year, Bachmann?

Truthdig is a Web magazine that provides a mix of long-form articles, interviews, and blog-like commentary on current events, delivered from a progressive point of view. The site is built around major "digs" led by authorities in their fields who write multifaceted pieces about contemporary, often controversial, topics. Articles on Truthdig are open for comments, and the participants in the discussions tend to be left-leaning.[citation needed]
Truthdig was co-founded by Los Angeles entrepreneur Zuade Kaufman, who serves as publisher, and journalist Robert Scheer, the editor of the Web site who also writes a weekly column for the site. Editor and contributor Barry Golson helped launch the site in 2003.[1]

Oh it's a hyper partisan rant site. Carry on.

Embarrassed for having 5 children? As long as she can afford em? I have no problem with it:)
