Metal drinking straw impales UK woman’s brain, killing her (1 Viewer)

Dude, it is an accident. .... happens

Metal drinking straw impales UK woman’s brain, killing her

Well that sucks. Maybe we haven entirely thought through the wisdom of creating a long and thin strip of metal to be used next to a person’s face.

Cheeses griste. She collapsed in her kitchen with a glass in her hand and this sounds to you like a reason metal straws are bad?
Damn. You must have your whole house padded and buffered and all soft edges. Do you even own a knife? It could kill you one day.

Now, see......if she had been using a plastic straw... ;)

I’d really like to know how sea turtles are managing to get plastic straws wedged in their nose holes.

silicone and neoprene straws are available, are flexible, washable, etc.

Ew.

I'm all for saving the environment but I don't think a blanket ban on plastic straws is the way to do it. Perhaps restaurants should only provide plastic straws on request.

I think we passed that law in California. I'm still given a straw without asking when I eat at In n Out however, as the law doesn't apply to large businesses, only small ones. Nearly every one of these stupid laws banning something 'for teh environment' in California is really just a backhanded giveaway to some corporate interest.

This was a freak accident. Poor lady, and so awful for her wife to have found her in such a way.

Of course. The environment is a liberal issue so good conservatives have to scorn the whole subject. Lots of conservatives love hunting and fishing as much as liberals do but damned if environmental concerns will get more than a snear.
You guys. Without a knee-jerk to get you started you wouldn't know what you think.

Pfft...the environment is something for you guys to worry about. I've remodeled my home to only include coal burning stoves, and I only eat endangered species.

But seriously, it doesn't take a climate scientist to figure out that adding 100M people to the country every 30-40 years is going to eventually kill the environment. 7/10 of the most polluted cities are in California, and arresting small business owners for handing out plastic straws isn't going to change things.

Poor woman.

I should like to point out: paper straws work nicely. And they are biodegradable.

I was just thinking that. I'm sure there's some way a paper straw could be fatal if we work at it though. Nearly everything is.

Fine. You city dwellers who figure everything you need will always arrive by the truckload can be smirking about environment issues but I see the trash floating in the salt-chuck every time I go fishing. Shellfish aquaculture here has already been affected by CO2 dissolving in the water. Hell, we've even noticed here that there is a really long rutting season for deer and I saw twins yesterday with all their spots and leggy like newborns, a month after normal.
You guys will continue to smirk and snear but anyone who lives in country knows what's happening. It'll be awhile before it affects your Starbucks latte- maybe then it'll appear on your radar screen.

It's become apparent that this thread was never designed to actually be about the poor ladies freak accident.

Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me.

Lots of the coke flushed down toilets during drug busts, makes its way to the sea, where the turtles grab floating straws in order to take advantage of all the free blow.

Maybe, and maybe I’m being totally insane here, the government has zero business regulating anything to do with straws.

Doesn’t much matter the topic any longer..................

Trump has a solution!

A metal straw literally kills a person and you don’t think there’s any cause for concern?

"It seems the main problem here is if the lid hadn't been in place the straw would have moved away," said assistant coroner Brendan Allen. "There is no give in them at all. If someone does fall on one and it's pointed in the wrong direction, serious injury can occur.
