Boeing is the exclusive sponsor of the program. They don't produce or sell any consumer products, so why do they advertise the snow? It could be they feel its their civic duty to sponsor the show or there could be a nefarious reason like paying for MTP silence on issues.

Any opinions out there?

The last time I bought a 737 from them it had one of those little index cards inside the cockpit asking me where I heard about them. Had to be honest it was watching the Meet The Press tv show. So they advertise to get consumers like me to come down to their showroom.

LOL! Sorry, but I call spoof on that one. A good spoof, mind you, but a spoof non the less. Well done.

Don't expect to see any exposes on Boeing in any of the mainstream media outlets anytime soon. You can only find that kind of thing in outlets like Democracy Now!

I've read multiple times the target audience for (at least some) Sunday show sponsors are legislators and government officials and all their hangers on. So there's that. And also I'm sure it doesn't hurt to have the stations dependent on you for a big chunk of their revenues and buys a bit of favorable treatment.

It's why I agree with people who refer to it as the "corporate" news/media. It's owned by big companies who depend for their survival on ads paid for by other mostly behemoth corporations, and so as a matter of shared philosophy and survival, the news we get is right in line with the viewpoints of.... large corporate America.

Great post, that is what I been thinking for a long time.

I Tivo MTP and fast forward through breaks and commercials. Help me out here - Boeing is the only company that advertises for that entire hour?

Uh huh, so who should sponsor the show?

On I'm sure there are local commercials so the station can get revenue but not at the national level.

I'm sure that is the target. Living here in the Washington DC area we get this all of the time. Where other radio markets get ads for Chrysler, Ford and Walmart we in the DC market get ads from companies promoting that they are the best choice to build the next Armored Fighting Vehicle for the military.

My opinion is Boeing sponsor's the program as a means to get to keep their name in political support *and* remind the audience what they produce for the government in terms of defense and space products. Which would make Boeing no different as a program sponsor, than the corporations that from time to time advertise on the show. Like GE, Northrup Grumman, etc. as a means to show how they helped shaped not just spending policy but perhaps influenced which scandals were not covered by the program.

Look at it this way. The show's producers, hosts, and guest commentators are not going to go that far in alienating certain political guests making the news both left and right. As such, they are also not going to alienate potential corporate sponsors who we all know lobby those same political guests.

If anything we are proving the relationship between corporations who have a business model dependent on government spending, and career politicians who have a vested interest in gaining their support in the typical pay to play relationship for duel way favorable conditions.

I'll put it to you another way. If I were a corporation who produced defense products, or exploration products, or other technology more aimed at government use... not only would I buy a few politicians to ensure my business model grew based on government spending but I would also sponsor the shows they speak on. I'll get their vote, and more importantly I'll get them to say what I need them to.

In other words... corporatism.

Fair question.

Me? I do not really care who sponsors the show - it could be the KKK for all I care (as much as I despise the KKK).

It would be nice to know who are the actual sponsors - but as to who they are...matters little to me.

I don't watch that show any more anyway since Tim Russert died. The new guy is a pale imitation.

I thought GE advertised on Meet the Press? That makes sense because GE owns NBC.

They advertise on weekly news shows to influence policy makers.

This article (from 2010) said the Boeing sponsored exclusively the MTP app.

Boeing gets large scale military contracts to build planes and other equipment. Maybe this is why MTP has always been slanted towards a corporate war agenda? Hmmmmmmm
