‘We Failed’: Danish Newspaper Apologizes For Its COVID Coverage

Ekstra Bladet, one of Denmark’s largest newspapers, gleaned one of the most important lessons in journalism during the pandemic.

“For ALMOST two years, we - the press and the population - have been almost hypnotically preoccupied with the authorities' daily coronatal,” wrote Bladet journalist Brian Weichardt. “THE CONSTANT mental alertness has worn out tremendously on all of us. That is why we - the press - must also take stock of our own efforts. And we have failed.”

I hadn't seen this apology before, even though it's from last year. Great job, at least in retrospect, for this newspaper to recognize its failure. Would 'twere the American media followed suit.

LMAO... A Danish tabloid apologizes!

WOW, ONE publication apologizes for failed Covid info. And we needed THAT as an excuse to attack all media??

AND a story, as the OP admits, from LAST YEAR!! Talking about scouring the internet for that one rare gem.(sarc)

This is confusing.

If journalists were wrong to listen to the experts, who were they supposed to listen to? After all, the author gives no example of the experts either lying or presumably benefiting personally from what they said

Newspaper? It's a tabloid. Thank you for showing everyone you got DUPED. Keep riding that Fail Train.

Trump failed.

"Birx speaks to her struggle to get through to an administration unprepared for the pandemic and President Trump, who quickly chilled on her stark projections of the damage the virus could do.

“Any other president would have wanted to know just how bad things were going to get and what could be done to prevent the worst case,” Birx wrote of her early days on the task force in 2020. “Except, this wasn’t any other president or any other White House. This was President Trump and the Trump White House. I was standing on constantly shifting sand, among political players I didn’t know and a president who apparently liked his news served good and upbeat, or not at all.”

CDC, FDA, NIH workers did not report incidents of political interference, 'fearing retaliation,' government watchdog agency says

Birx levies critiques too against the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for its initial reaction to the illness as flu-like and lack of clear division of duties among agencies. Birx attributed some of this to CDC Director Dr. Robert Redfield’s status as a “political appointee” in the Trump administration."

They should have questioned them. Its the lack of questioning that was the problem.

Trump kept them on a leash to the point that he took over the daily briefings.

"After Birx told CNN’s Dana Bash in August 2020 that the virus was “extraordinarily widespread,” Birx wrote, Trump called her and demanded the name of the person who booked the interview, saying “That’s it! Do you understand me? Never again! The virus is under control.”"

Tabloids are newspapers. Newspapers were traditionally in two forms, broadsheets and tabloids.

What's the fail, other than yours in thinking a tabloid is not a newspaper?

So the media was doing trumps bidding? Ok.

When someone thinks Newspaper, they don't think Tabloid. If you can't see the difference between a MSM Newspaper and some rag that is less truthful than The Enquirer, no one can help you. What's next, you calling Infowars a news program?

False. They only listens to SOME experts. Any expert that was heterodox was shut own of the conversation. Well...the state-sanctioned experts were wrong on nearly everything.

The media.

How are Ethiopian tabloids reacting to this development? :ROFLMAO:

I was wrong, too. I thought that disinformation professionals would be mad about the tanks today. Instead, it's COVID distractions. Someone should keep track of the patterns so that we can predict what we'll be seeing on any given day.

They should have questioned them. Its the lack of questioning that was the problem.
It was also the lack of reporting the known truth, like when the media would not report correctly the impact of natural immunity, the overstatement of the efficacy of the vaccines, the false statements that the vaccines had been tested and were proven safe when they were not, and the denigration of treatments for covid at the word of the parties trying to sell the vaccine.

If I remember correctly, she was trying her damndest to look neutral during those Covid briefings. She often looked like she was sucking on a lemon.
