McCarthy withdraws from speaker race, vote postponed | Fox News

House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy, the front-runner to replace John Boehner, stunned his Republican colleagues on Thursday by withdrawing from the race -- a decision that will postpone the vote for speaker.

Fox News is told McCarthy simply said it was not his time. McCarthy faced opposition from some conservative members and groups, but was thought to have more than enough support to win the party's nomination in the vote initially set for Thursday.

It's unclear what specifically made McCarthy change his mind and drop out.
WOW!! Developing.....

Hopefully it will be someone with a grasp of the English language who can articulate the Republican platform.

Nobody has the votes. Back to Boehner?

I was wondering about that. Can he step back into a role he said he quit?

Probably, I guess. I'm sure he is crying.

From CNN:

"The move came without warning as House Republicans were in a closed-door meeting to select their nominee for speaker. Boehner has postponed the vote.

Boehner is poised to resign at the end of the month and there is no clear successor who can unite the conference and win the post. An influential group of conservatives endorsed a long-shot candidate, Rep. Daniel Webster, on Wednesday, throwing McCarthy's ability to win the House floor vote later this month in doubt."

Let the dysfunction begin!

Bwuahahahahahaha, the dysfunction has existed for years. We're trying to fix it.

My gut feeling is he don't want it.

Not in an election year.

Not when it appears Pelosi's & Reid's crews are circling the wagons to maintain ranks & give no help.

Kevin "Untrustable" McCarthy dropping out reduces the RNC dysfunction.

I wonder why he dropped out, did he do something bad?
His Clinton comment wasn't brilliant, that's for sure.

But CNN claims the Hard Righties backed another candidate, precluding McCarthy.

(See my post #10, here)

I wonder why he dropped out, did he do something bad?

Probably some violation of them family values that the socons pretend to have.

I just saw that. No doubt he was pressured from within. The job was his until he opened his mouth about Benghazi. Too bad, because I liked him until then.

He's mentally defective. He's been hopping around the halls of Congress with one foot in his mouth for a long time.

Losing Boehner and McCarthy in the same month is great news for the Republicans.

I think I understand the point you're attempting to make.

My reply is: "We'll see"

Well, true. But I honestly can't think of a single less qualified candidate for Speaker on the Republican side than McCarthy.
