How does California Democrat Rep. Maxine Waters afford a multi-million dollar, 6,000 sq.ft. mansion in an affluent white neighborhood in Los Angeles on government payroll for the last 40 years? Enquiring minds want to know.

It’s a question Tucker Carlson asked on his Fox News program last week after Waters trashed Housing of Urban Development Secretary Ben Carson and vowed to “take his ass apart.”

She must be part of that “criminal enterprise” Howard Dean mentioned

You could start by googling her, seeing who her husband is, judging how much those combined salaries would generate if one also lived within one's means and made good investments, etc.

I know this can be hard to understand for some, but if you make an accusation the burden is on you to provide evidence.

in an affluent white neighborhood

That's the part that really burns you, isn't it. If it were an affluent black neighborhood, that would be cool, right?

There are two members of the black caucus heading for jail, from Philadelphia and Jacksonville, also Jessie Jackson Jr. still serving, all for financial misconduct. Maxine should be right there with them. Charlie Rangel as well. When will these ;constructed; African-American districts wise up and elect ethical representatives, not just ones with big MOUTHS?

Her husband’s majority of his portfolio was tied up in a regional bank-check it out. She personally got intervention to bail out this bank. Otherwise they would have gone bankrupt. She has been voted ”Most Corrupt Member of Congress” several times. What does that tell you? .She is a wretched human being, a liar and a hypocrite.

The mansion was probably only worth about $1.5 million when she and her husband bought it. Looks like she made a good investment.

If in fact Maxine Waters has obtained her wealth illegally, her local jurisdiction, the State of California and the federal government all have investigative agencies and attorneys capable of prosecuting her. Unless and until a court convicts her, our criminal system relies on an assumption of innocence.

Corruption among politicians historically and currently remains extremely bipartisan.

This is kinda proof of just how gullible some people are. Carlson either made a really ****ing retarded story, or more likely he sold something he knew was stupid to people he knew would not bother to check. Waters has a 1 million dollar loan for the house, which was probably what it was worth at the time she bought it. On a 30 year mortgage, that is about 5 grand a month payment, which she and her husband should be able to afford, especially if they have been smart with their money.

1960s NFL players didn't get paid that much. Nonetheless, her husband (or both of them) could have made wise or lucky business investments that proved profitable.

A home going up from $1.5 million to $4 million can be a great investment if you are selling the home. But in terms of living in it then you have to pay property taxes on the home and if a house climbs from $1.5 million to $4 million I will hazard a guess the property tax dramatically rises too. Of course, one might choose to live in such a home with high property taxes until they decide to retire and then sell the home for a nice profit.

After retiring from football, her husband sold Mercedes in Hollywood, then worked as a business developer. He finished off his working career as the Ambassador to the Bahamas.

The house looks to be bought for 1 million(details linked earlier in the thread). With her income and his, assuming just reasonable intelligence, the payment on a 30 year mortgage would not be impossible to make. I got those details from simple google searches, which suggests that Tucker Carlson did not do much homework for his story.

I dunno...but I think Prop 13 could help keep her property taxes pretty low...especially if they bought the house twenty or thirty years ago.

Section 1. (a) The maximum amount of any ad valorem tax on real property shall not exceed one percent (1%) of the full cash value of such property. The one percent (1%) tax to be collected by the counties and apportioned according to law to the districts within the counties.
— California Constitution Article XIII

Proposition 13 declared property taxes were to be assessed their 1975 value and restricted annual increases of the tax to an inflation factor, not to exceed 2% per year. A reassessment of the property tax can only be made a) when the property ownership changes or b) there is construction done.[2]

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/California_Proposition_13_(1978)

So no matter what her house is worth in today's market....she's still only paying a one or two percent annual increase on what her house was worth when she bought it.
