That is some mighty odd logic. A new vehicle costs far more than a new gun (and lasts far less time), yet the driver's license cost is far less. Using your "if you can afford it" logic then why stop at $240? Perhaps the cost of a DL should be raised to $20,000 to make its ratio to an average new car cost about the same as a CHL is to the cost of a new handgun.
Average Price of a New Car? - Forbes
I accept your surrender
Do you have any idea how much new plates cost in Florida? $200.00 every ten years mandatory. Now lets add in the yearly registration price of $35.00. so that is 550.00 to license and register you car every ten years. Now lets add in village taxes depending on the state and gas taxes. Sorry that does not float man.
Let's see $55/year for a $30,000 car vs. $38/year for a $350 handgun; it is not even close.
Can anyone guess which policies contributed greatly to this reduction in gun crime?

Databasing, big brother type monitoring, ignoring 4th amendment restrictions, aggressive policing?
But, but, but 0.18% is just like 10.8%
They both have a zero, a one, and an eight!
That is irrelevant. The cost of the item has no correlation at all, none.
True for the most part, but frisking for weapons does not violate the 4th amend.
I agree and I wish ttwt would stop confusing the issue with facts
On a few points they do. First off, it shouldn't be illegal to carry a gun in the first place (ok...that one's second amendment). Secondly, these policies don't necessarily require that there be any reasonable suspicion that one is carrying a gun. If they do not have proper cause or warrant, they should not be allowed to search.

Yep. It is simply that mind over matter thing; if he doesn't mind then it doesn't matter.
Terry stop - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
It can be argued, and has, that the police in NYC have not always complied with the requirements of the law concerning Terry stops
That was exactly the argument that you initially presented to defend the high cost of a CHL - the ability to afford the "high cost" of a handgun. When shown how rediculously out of proportion it was, you now blow it off as not important? There is no valid reason to charge 10x the fee for a CHL than for a DL except to try to limit those that can afford it. Get real!
What facts? That owning a gun cost less than owning a car? Owning a car is not even remotely related or comparable to owning a weapon of any type. Of course never let reality get in the way of a good argument seems to be the motto of you two. It is a silly apples to oranges comparison based on nonsense.
Please note the number of injuries and deaths attributed to car use compared to those for gun abuse. They are both clearly "pubilc safety" issues (but with many more deaths and injuries from cars), and both have the same "administrative" costs to the state - they are simply plastic cards with photos on them (apples to apples).
That is not what I said. I said if they can afford a gun, that minor tax is nothing. Has nothing to do with the cost of a car or any other cost of owning a car. I was showing the cost of owning a car is and was not applicable. If you want to own something you pay the price, period. If you want a sports car, you pay the price plus all lic docs and fee's, period. Same for a gun.
Yes, there are some issues with how it has been implemented, but I believe those could be handled with some effort
Yea because that is exactly what I said. Jeeesh.
Mental illness is a small issue compared to gang violence where guns are concerned. Gang violence accounts for 80%+ of gun crime. So why are they focusing so much attention on mental illness? Only one person doing a mass shooting was able to buy a gun legally because the background check missed his mental background. The others were not gotten legally. So mental illness played only a small role, it would have made no difference.
Stop freaking wasting time on things that are mostly irrelevant to push a political agenda that promotes banning of weapons based on stupidity.
Tight restrictions on CCW and stop and frisk is what worked in NYC
Except owning a car isn't a costitutional right and I shouldn't have to pay for a permit to excercise my civil rights.
