That’s mostly it. It has little to do with actual policy. He’s a prolific liar, and a bully. He’s good at using lawyers - what many of his people call ‘law fare’ to harass and intimidate people. The republicans have, for years, cheated by gerrymandering, and have been way better at that that the Dems. All things considered, it was almost a perfect storm that has allowed Trump back into the White House. He wants that power. Unfortunately, he doesn’t know how to do much good with it.

A few things here. Trump had 4 years of campaigning along with 4 years of allied media pushing his BS. Harris had just 100 days, was a black woman and for the most part unknown. She had no time to get a decent message going. Trump barely won with 1.5% of the popular vote. The only people he ever beat were two women, which have inherently been handicapped in American presidential politics.
So how well did Trump actually do?

It is not demonizing to say that Trump lacks empathy, avoids responsibility, is involved in criminal behavior, is unethical, blames others, has a pathological need for attention. If you think the Democrats, during the campaign, should have been characterizing Trump as chaste, honest, youthful, experienced and qualified for the presidency I'm sure there are people willing to have that discussion with you. Frankly it is it is Republicans who are not processing the strange and unhealthy elements that are taking over their party.
