the unbelievable hubris/overreach/ built into bureaucracies is amazing what the hell is this?
Department of Energy's (DOE) Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE)
Manchin pulled an agenda item to consider Biden's nomination of Jeff Marootian to lead the Department of Energy's (DOE) Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE) from a scheduled panel meeting Wednesday morning. The committee had been slated to advance the nomination to a full floor vote, but will now just consider the 21 other agenda items.

Marootian was first nominated to take the helm at the EERE office in July 2022 after serving as special assistant to President Biden and, prior to that role, director of the Washington, D.C., Department of Transportation. The position has been vacant since Daniel Simmons, who led the office throughout the Trump administration, departed the DOE in early 2021.

DOE Secretary Jennifer Granholm then hired Marootian as her senior adviser for energy efficiency and renewable energy in September. His confirmation hearing before the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee took place in November and he was reported out of committee in December, but his nomination stalled at the end of session, forcing Biden to renominate him in January.
The EERE office is broadly tasked with decarbonizing the U.S. economy, largely through appliance regulations.

Food is very important to Asians and you need a gas stove to properly cook Asian foods.

Yeah well I need breathable air and a future for my grandchildren.
You don't like a gas stove, don't get one.

Environmental pollution has this weird way of affecting other people.
And the fuel used to generate the electricity for your electric stove doesn't?

There is pretty much no negative effects to gas cooking.
This is another demonstration of the complete incompetence of real liberalism. No substantive good will come out of this, but liberals will pat themselves on the back like they did something. These are the people who got Participation Trophies as children.

And the fuel used to generate the electricity for your electric stove doesn't?
It absolutely does which is exactly why I advocate for cleaner sources of electricity also.

I'm sorry, what point is it you think you were making?

Plus they're only helping China instead of their own country. It'll be their undoing, and unfortunately ours too.

Only a boomer could blame children for the participation trophies given to them by their parents. Boomers invented that, why are you mad at millennials about it?

That your electric stove is going to kill your grandchildren as much as my gas stove is.

Are you even remotely serious?

The EERE was created in 1973. It funds R&D for, and promotes, all sorts of clean tech. It does a lot more than just appliances, such as:
weatherization
heating and cooling
lighting
renewable energy supplies (biofuels, geothermal, hydrogen, solar, wind etc)
increasing building efficiencies
insulation
thermostats
sustainable transportation

Manchin is opposing this appointment because he's the fossil fuel industry's bitch. Sorry to be blunt, but it's true. His top donors are in the natural gas, oil, gas and auto industries. He's personally made millions from a coal brokerage company while in office.

The right-wing fixation on gas stoves, as though that was the most important thing in the US -- when so-called "Red" states almost exclusively use electric appliances -- is utterly bonkers. Do you really think everyone in the US is a single-issue voter on the desire to burn natural gas in their own homes?

That your electric stove is going to kill your grandchildren as much as my gas stove is.
Oh, so you're saying something that is just stupid and wrong. Got it.

My tolerance for ignorance, when combined with condescending sanctimony has run out. Have a blessed day

The gentleman is nominated to be Assistant Secretary for Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy at the United States Department.

Manchin is being a dick.

If there is a natural disaster or some other reason for an electricity grid going down, what are people supposed to do? I have a little stove and these can things that you plug into it and that is in case of a bad earthquake. It seems to be a pretty good idea, but you folks in the U.S. aren't going to be allowed to have any sort of back up cooking method? Or will there be a clause in the legislation that allows for some sort of emergency use stove?

I mean, it seems that relying on only one source of energy for heating water and/or cooking is not a lot smart. Hot water, by the way, during a period when people might be hurt and such can be rather important. And also for cleaning water that might not be so safe.

But the reliance on just one energy source smells like problems could arise at some future date. In fact, I'd bet a whole bunch of folks will just hide their emergency stoves, like the one I have.

Meaning you sit and complain and demand life be made harder and more expensive for everyone else
