Arizona man who sold ammo to Las Vegas gunman pleads guilty

A man who made tracer and armour piercing rounds that he sold to the Vegas Shooter has pleaded guilty. He will face up to 250K in fines and up to 5 years jail in jail. This gentalman had been producing and selling these illegal rounds at gun shows and online. Law enforcement failed the public by not stopping his operation until it was too late. IMO he will have the book thrown at him to make up for law enforcements inaction.

You'd think the 2cd amendment would protect him. What good is a gun without bullets?

2nd amendment isn't unlimited, you need a bunch of paperwork to purchase certain types of weapons.

I'd assume that is the case here, or they've made them completely illegal in that area.

My understanding is there are two issues.
First you need a license to sell ammo. You're able to make it for personal use but not sell it. Probably because of quality control and saftey reasons
Second it waa the type of rounds made. I don't think you're allowed to manufacture the type of rounds he sold.

I could be wrong by that's just my arm chair understanding on this issue

There are books I have from the 1980s that give all the information needed to create armor piercing rounds. The only warning is to check local laws before proceeding.

How would it have made a difference? Did the Vegas shooters' rounds penetrate someone's body armor or something?

He deserves jail.

The USA has enough - armed to the teeth nutjobs - without these criminals making it easier to commit a mass shooting.

How did that ammo make it easier?

Depends upon who was/could be shooting at?
Who knows how he planned to go out?

If he broke the law, sure he should be punished. He should not however have his head placed on a pike at the city gates because of what someone else did. It is misplaced aggression and as far as I am concerned unjust and unamerican to punish someone unfairly for another's misdeeds.

I didn't realize it was illegal to sell certain things (other than drugs) was illegal. That's wrong on so many levels.

Tracer rounds are not illegal, most rifles will pierce body armor which is mainy only effective against handgun rounds. That said, I would also point out that these rounds made zero difference in the commission of the horrendous act committed. Should he be punished, I'll leave that to the courts, we shall see is real Justice is in play.

Which points out why the anti-gun Left is wrong and the real problem with guns: Lack of enforcement of current laws. Dylann Roof was able to obtain a gun even though he should have been flagged. Nickolas Cruz was known to be mentally ill, yet he was allowed access to guns despite laws which prohibited him from having a gun.

Have nor read the link, but if true armor piercing rounds are a threat to law enforcement?

FOR THE RECORD

To manufacture armor piercing ammo, you need a Type 10 Federal Firearms License from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. A Type 10 FFL is a "Manufacturer of Destructive Devices, Ammunition for Destructive Devices, or Armor Piercing Ammunition". These licenses are not easy to acquire from the ATF and requires $3,000 just to apply for the license.

Because it was shot ?

Supplying illegal ammunition also makes it easier for a felon to buy it.

The shooter wasn't a felon.

So again, how did this ammo make it easier?

military armor-piercing (steel core) rounds are legal. Teflon-coated AKA cop killers are illegal. I don't know what type he was making but it appears the main problem for him is that he's a felon and wasn't legal to possess or re-manufacture ammo.

Anyone can buy reloading equipment and make ammunition. Maybe California has stricter laws, but most states do not. However, like making your own dandelion wine, it's one thing to make it but it's another thing to sell it without a license.

Thank you, a question, how well does armor piecing ammo work on police vests?

He deserves jail.

We should totally make some laws about it.

So you can distill whiskey for personal consumption without a license ?
