Man at BLM protest fires 13 rounds into police station, only charged with one count of rioting.

Is shooting 13 rounds into an empty police station just rioting.

I don't think so.
I hate guns, anyway. Discharging a firearm in a chaotic crowd like a riot seems dangerous, but to me, having ANY gun at a riot should be outlawed and stiffly penalized. However, that is apparently not the law in Minneapolis.

I am sure Minneapolis/Minnesota has laws against reckless discharge of a firearm, damaging public property, etc.i just don't get why he only got the one charge.

Maybe it was a plea bargain, the article isn't very detailed.

Somebody buried the lead.
A white supremacist POSING AS a BLM supporter.
I wonder why the headline is "Man at BLM protest" at all.
Since he's clearly NOT a BLM supporter and a white supremacist, why isn't the thread titled "White supremacist fires 13 rounds into police station" ???

The fact that the sentencing is up to 5 years, indicates it's a felony. He's expected to get 37-46 months, as per fed guidelines, and being a federal sentence he will do virtually all the sentence.

No matter what the charge is called, the sentencing might be fair depending upon the circumstances. I'd need to no more details to weigh full judgement.

But 3-4 years of time served, for capping-off at an abandoned governmental building? That might be fair. But, if there were others in or around the building, and especially if he was shooting at them, yeah - I'd want a stiffer sentence.

Does the prosecution go for the gusto and swing heavy risking some piece of evidence getting tossed at trial and loose a case everyone thinks should be a slam dunk? Or do they make a plea deal for a lesser charge and get the chance to brag about high conviction rates as proof they are effective in their position?

Bad choice on my part. I was just thinking the right on here would only look at the thread if they thought that it was a BLM=Bad thread.

But you are right, it isn't a good title.

Seems I can't edit the title.

He's looking at a felony time of 37-46 months in federal prison.

Depending on the circumstances, that might be a fair sentence. He'll never legally posses a gun again, and that might be a good thing.

Ah, alright buddy - fair enough.

Thanks for the honest & forthright reply.

Have a good one!
I thought DP's right might be more likely to join the discussion if they thought it was a BLM=Bad thread.

But it wasn't a good headline choice.

Oh well, stuff happens.

That's why I liked the old BN-MSN rules, where the thread titles had to be the same as the article titles. I still usually do that not just there, but elsewhere, though not always if I'm in 'General Discussion'. It seems General Discussion allows the freedom to create a title, as you've done.

Ironically, posters may suspect you're a Right Wing Anti-BLM type, trying to pull a fast one, when you seem anything but!

Oh well, enter this New Year laughing, because it is pretty funny!

Have a good one!

How is it this guy is just charged with one count of rioting?

It sure smells like he's got some 'good ol boys' in the "justice system" that are okay with the 'Boogaloo Boys.' The article didn't say where the federal court is located.

Not the end of the world but I grew up in that very neighborhood, South Minneapolis, and so it definitely threw me for a sec.

Thread title, not the news story headline....go practice your CTRL+C CTRL+V somewhere else, please.
