I just find it hard to believe that no one you know plays any sort of video game unless you live in some cloistered community. Do you count video poker? Maybe some of them secretly play The Sims for hours each night but hide it to avoid persecution by the local community.
Why not, the last one did...

So you are claiming that conservative leisure activities are always constructive? Please see my above post referencing golf and horse dancing.
It's a good means of separating out the weird or the childish from the normal. The opponents can capitalize on a huge generation gap (one that existed up to the early point of the last decade) and demonstrate that they "aren't ready" for grown-up activities like politics.
Well, I never said that, but who cares about what I really said. Right? You're not going to let anything stand in your way of making a personal attack.
But, since you brough it up...why is it so hard to comprehend that not everyone is just like you?
What? Where did I even hint at that? Are you so over the top partisan that you have to bring political persuasion into everything?
For the mother****ing horde!
Or people can grow up and learn some people get rid of stress in different ways. I am sorry, but this is simply childish behavior on the part of the Maine GOP. I would much rather have a representive relax time be playing WoW or Madden compared to going out and doing drugs or drinking. Hell, I am about to go get a game of Command and Conquer because my mind needs a break from studying. And for anyone saying I am not ready for grown up activities, in law school, top 25% of my class, and I am a select few for potetial TAs for next semester. Whoops, guess I am not ready for anything yet.
Alliance all the way.
Only person on Horde who deems any respect is Thrall.
I apologize. It was this line that lead me to my conclusion.
"Of all the people I know, work with, am friends with, am acquaintances with and the conversations we have, video games is never a topic."
I missed that you stated earlier in the post that MOST of your friends don't play though if it is never a topic of conversation, how do you know? As usual, I'm not claiming everyone else plays video games but in modern U.S. society those who don't are just another fantasy right wing majority.

If you're spending 22 hours a week relieving stress by sitting your ass on a couch, a job that requires 60-80 hours a week serving the people might not be a good fit for you - which was precisely the point the Maine GOP was trying to make.
You can excuse your couch potato behavior however you wish, and it's your life to waste, but it doesn't make them any less excuses.
I wouldn't have even participated in this thread, if not for the suggestion that the folks that don't play vidoe games, or at least spend a limited amount of time playing them are the folks that are the weirdos.
I was only pointing out that thise folks aren't the weirdos, they're the normal folks, who perform tough, dirty, dangerous jobs everyday, to make a living.
Most of the gamer dorks I've worked with were substandards workers, lacked maturity, motivation, common sense and social skills. They couldn't take an ass chewing; when I got in their ass about something, they wanted to throw a hissy fit and drag up. They had problems telling the difference between a discussion and a lecture; had an inability to respect authority; believed that instructions were optional.
My dad told me when I was a kid: "There are two kinds of men in the world, roughnecks and ******s." The gamer dorks usually AREN'T roughnecks.
It's a perspective that resonates with many people (moreso the existing voters rather than upcoming potential voters), so it will be exploited. That's all there is to it.
You're a homosexual.
Thrall was pretty boss but I have two words for you as a Tauren.
Cairne ****ing Bloodhoof!
I don't completely disagree, but like you said it is perspective and that is sort of my point. The job is stressful and playing WoW isn't as bad as many things they could be doing.

Acording to the figures you posted you are indeed correct in you original assertion that the video game industry has surpassed both the music and video industry in gross receipts. Also, the figures report 2/3rds of the US population plays video games (though how they could know that is a bit shaky, sounds like someone is spittballing for advertising effect).
Personally I find it's like the stats that the porn industry trumps all other entertainment media - sad.
I'm not suggesting it is a point I completely agree with. To me, it is just a possible tool to undermine the credibility of the opponent. I might have qualms with gaming culture, and I do, but for the most part, I am pretty live and let live with it.
How so? Video games are not porn,
I understand that, but the GOP is using perspective and completely blocking out their own. Maybe some one from the GOP watches TV for three hours a night. That is just as much a waste of a time then playing a game for three hours. My point is, simply because you do not understand why doesn't mean it is childish or you are not prepared for problems.
Well, in a way they are. It's a carnal, often depraved portrayal of reality (hyper-reality, really).
What? Where did I even hint at that? Are you so over the top partisan that you have to bring political persuasion into everything?
Certainly not, but we have had generations that were more inclined to believe it (not at all unlike the "boob tube" complaints). It will fade away after a while. Well, that is unless, the gaming community continues to strive to be like the satire in the film Gamer.
