MAGA's elected Trump to lower the COL but elected him to raise the COL via tariffs. How does that work?

When they say the vast majority of MAGA's cannot do 4th grade level math they aren't kidding. I cannot figure out how the two can reconcile. Please explain.

MAGA wants P2025, nothing more. Set Dear Leader as the Supreme Leader, establish Single Party rule, weaponize the DOJ and other agencies to crack down and punish dissent.

Uninformed voters.

Uninformed voters.
They have seen Trump play boss man on reality TV. They liked the performance. Plus he cusses real good just like them, and doesn't use all those bull$hit fancy words they can't understand.

Where was all of this hand wringing when Biden raised tariffs?

So, your premise is that half the voters in the US are stupid. I think that that premise is shared by the people who voted for Trump, it's just that they are referring to you all.

You need to let that idea sink in for a while. I know it may cause you a headache, but that cannot be helped.

Tariffs aren't as easy as 'this/that get tariffed, American's pay more'
Tariffs could also cause less of the thing that now costs more to be sold, or a replacement to be sold more.

If tariffs create alternatives (in the US) to be made, it is a good result (perhaps) as the devil is always in the details.

But the collective cries here of tariff BAD...is silly nonsense.

Your confusion stems from the fact that you are listening to so-called "experts" who constantly and deliberately ignore reality.

Trump's tariffs do not increase the cost of goods to US consumers.

It's unfortunate you don't understand the difference between targeted at general but then again that is the point of this thread.

Quite frankly that is a very simplistic view. You can't simply turn a switch and start up production of tarriffed products both in terms of facilities and employees with the right skills. Additionally there are natural resources in strong demand in the U.S that simply don't exist there in the quantities required. Then there is the whole notion of retaliatory tarriffs. Case in point China just banned the export of critical minerals to the US in retaliation for tariffs imposed on China. Canada has a wealth of these minerals critical to many industries including EV's, technology and medical equipment. How keen do you think we will be to close that gap when being threatened with 25% tarrifs on evey export from Canada to the US?

It’s like the economy is in the shitter and nobody can afford to live but hey record Black Friday sales for Christmas. 🤣

My point wasn't that tariffs are simple, it's that both sides of the tariff issue are attempting to argue about it in the simplest terms.

It isn't and can't be argued that way. For example: We already have tariffs, not a single person AGAINST them right now argued against them when Biden kept, or added to them.

They were industry specific and not consumer impacting. People only care when it matters to them.

Biden increased tariffs on Canadian lumber from 8.9% to 17.9%. Why weren’t you complaining about that?
Are you kidding me.....the softwood lumber war has been going on for decades

He kept in place all the tariffs that already existed, were they all targeted? And he added to them.

Without answering those, what we didn't have is the resulting cries about the sky falling from the same people that didn't understand then what they were. (likely the same ones crying now about what they still don't have a firm grasp on)

I’m not kidding. I want to know why you have nothing to say when a Democrat president implements massive tariff increases but have a problem when a Republican president says he wants to do the same.

I don't have a problem with targeted tariffs only with blanket tarriffs. We'll see how Musk reacts to a 25% tarrif on critical minerals now that China has cut you off.

The reason you have those comments is because Trump is talking about 10-20% tariffs on everything. Tariffs are used in basically 2 ways, Targeted to promoted American businesses, or general to push a trade war or punishment. Trump is pushing the second and that will cause prices of just about everything to increase.

Trump has always talked a game (not even a good one) but stuff that he puts out like this BEFORE he has any power to do so is done for two reasons:

1. To flesh out the idea, perhaps even get feedback and
2. To make the screaming heads explode.
