See my sig about racism and tRump supporters.
Yes, we're in the midst of a cycling of sorts, trying to figure out where the Democratic party needs to go. It's an important discussion, but there are too many "Gimme what I want right now or I take my ball and go home" voices in that discussion.
As the democrats sort these things out, where they need to go, you’re going to hear a lot of voices say go left, go further left. Which is fine for democrats. But what about that 40% or so who aren’t democrats nor are they republicans? They split down the middle last year, half going to Harris, half going to Trump. I don’t think the democrats need to select or have a physical leader. But they need to unite into one voice with a positive message to those swing voters, the non-affiliated, the less to non-partisan group of voters. At least for the midterms, the democrats can decide on a leader before 2028.
This group will know how Trump affects their personal lives, but what changes do the democrats offer that will make their lives better? They don’t need to hear Trump, Trump, MAGA, MAGA from the democrats. Harris made that mistake by not offering any changes. She was asked what she would do different as president than what Biden had done. Her answer, nothing. Great to be loyal, but nothing wasn’t what the voters, that 40% was looking for. They wanted a positive change, a change that would hold the promise of a better life and perhaps an improvement in their living standards. Harris didn’t give that, Trump did. At least Trump promised positive change to what Biden and company had been doing.
A positive change message is what’s needed and then beat that positive change message to death. Okay, I’m a swing voter, probably the last person on earth that the democrats would listen to. But as a swing voter, I’ll offer one more thing, candidates’ matter. Not in solid red or blue districts, but in swing districts. Running someone who is ideological pure and far left probably will lose in a swing district. The reason, swing districts aren’t far left or far right. Trump chose and ran a bunch of ideological MAGA candidates in 2022 in swing districts and states, most lost. Masters, Walker, Diehl, Cox, Laxalt, Oz, Bolduc, Tshibaka, Palin, Lake, Schmidt, Dixon, Mastriano plus some I can’t remember all lost. Too far right, way too MAGA. Learn from his mistakes.
