I'm not optimistic Californians will elect the right candidate for our next Governor. Don't think much can be done about affordability, but plenty room for improvement in other areas. Would start by reigning in legislative overkill.

In general, the cost of government "services" per capita tends to go down as population density goes up due to economies of scale.

As time goes by, states change their party affiliaitons or go from red to swing to blue and blue to swing to red. Growing up the south was solid blue with the northeast red. California was a red state until 1992, now it’s a blue state. There are several states in the process of changing colors. There has been movement from 2000-2024 for the states from red to blue or blue to red. Below is the movement based on PVI, Partisan Voting Index along with their number of electoral votes for the 2024 presidential election. I only included swing states, no solid red or blue states.

Arizona from an R+6 down to an R+2. Moving blue. 11 electoral votes

Florida from R+1 to a R+3 getting slightly redder. 30 electoral votes

Georgia from a R+10 down to an R+3 Moving blue 16 electoral votes

Michigan from a D+6 to a R+1 Moving Red 15 electoral votes

Minnesota from a D+10 down to a D+1 moving Red 10 electoral votes

Nevada from D+3 to R+1 Moving Red 6 electoral votes

North Carolina from an R+9 down to a R+3 moving blue 16 electoral votes

Ohio From an R+4 up to an R+6 Becoming more red 17 electoral votes

Cost of living is associated with income. High income areas have a high cost of living. Using your "theory," that would mean progressive policies will make you rich. Wanna be rich?

Texas, Arizona, and Nevada are the top three states they move to, and they are not turning blue.

Arizona and Nevada are "bluer" than they were. Nothing like California, which is why people like those states.

Arizona and Nevada are also libertarian states. Thinking they are bastions of MAGA "conservatism" would be incorrect.

And Las Vegas is more liberal than Reno, yet Reno has a higher cost of living. It would seem "progressive policies" aren't what you claim them to be.

San Francisco is the gayest city in the country, and one of the most progressive.

Nevada has no income tax. Alcohol, gambling, cannabis and prostitution is legal 24/7. It's also one of the most diverse states. Do what you want and leave others to do what they want. Spend money. About as libertarian as you can get.

Using what metric? AZ and NV are represented by Democratic Senators and several Democratic Representatives. Voter registration is fairly even, last I checked.

They're not Republican. They're independent. Voting for Trump once doesn't make a state Republican.

You're the one who mentioned fixed income. Someone on a fixed income who can't afford property tax has several options.

The point stands. Those with high income, or property, gain the most by moving from high tax states.

Cities and states that don't build housing become too expensive and become overrun with homelessness, making the city a worse place to live for everyone.

LA and SF are two of the most overrated cities in America IMO.

Yes, blue states drive out their most productive residents, and then increase taxes on those left to make up for it until you're left with something that looks like Detroit.
