Los Angeles ranks No. 1 in move-outs for second year, PODS data shows

An older 496 sf beach cottage down the block sold for $1.8M. Maybe a 15-20 minute walk to the beach.

Gentrification on steroids.

I meant closer to the Beach. It used to be sketchy with homeless and degenerate's.

Nobody goes to LA anymore. It's too crowded.

Yogi!

My family and friends love CA. I moved for factors other than toxic blah blah... and none that I know are moving for that reason either.

h

Living in Coto has to be nice. None of that toxic blah blah, but the HOAs.

Coto is great. Great access to Rancho and Ladera Ranch. A bit of a drive to get to places but it is worth it. Lots of trails there and the Toll Roads get you around pretty quick, never any traffic. The last few visits I have seen how far up the Ortega Highway, for instance, houses are being built. Same in Santiago Canyon. Love it though. We saw a mountain lion near Black Star Canyon last trip.

We hit up Vegas, Zion, Bryce and Death Valley on the last trip.

It’s Silicon Beach now which has pushed prices from Venice Blvd towards Santa Monica past crazy due to the tech companies moving in.

Since Covid, and tents around the boardwalk were only temporarily allowed to slow the spread of the disease, homeless camps / van and camper clusters are greatly reduced. Haven’t seen any campers parked along Lincoln in ages. There are a couple of vans still on Electric.

The boardwalk is a public place, and as long as all the naughty bits are covered and you are not disturbing the peace, there’s no reason someone can’t be there.

I didn't say major cities in America.

I said: " previously decent areas".

.
And that’s every major city in America

And prior to the PODS data, U-Haul had been showing Los Angeles to lead in years past.

Its much more than people retiring and taking their fortunes and moving to a more sustainable area.

Its peolle fleeing toxic politics and liberal progressive government.

There are indeed 'greener pastures' east of the Mississippi.

Perhaps PODS is becoming increasingly popular in Los Angeles, with good credit among customers. Or maybe people in Los Angeles can afford external moving help to a greater extent because their incomes are higher than last year while other parts of the US prefers other moving companies or has declined in purchasing power?

Its well documented in America why citizens leave So California.

I'm one of them after living there 37 years. 20 years in the same house in Oxnard.

Probably has a lot to do with the fires

Smell A is an awful place, now. It used to be a beautiful city, but has really gone downhill since the dems took over. It literally stinks - the stench of urine and feces hangs in the air - even in some parts of the west side, now. 😞

I would leave this hell-hole if I could, but my business is here, my family is here, and my rental properties are here. It would be too disruptive to leave.
Haven’t the Democrats ran it for decades? Almost all cities are ran by Democrats. Well ran cities are ran by Democrats and poorly ran cities are ran by Democrats.

That is probably part of it, but I imagine housing costs are the biggest concern, coupled with public safety issues (perceived or real). Would you want a 900k 2 bed / 1 bath 700 sq foot home that smelled like human feces and urine outside and where you looked at a homeless encampment of junkies on your sidewalk? You could throw in having to get someone from customer service to unlock the deodorant at your local Walgreens.

The American Cultural Left has done a horrible job running many of our cities over the last decade, and I say this as a life long Democrat.

I used to go to Home Depot there and had to dodge all the illegals and non illegals on the way to park.

Lack of housing causes housing cost to rise. Also high insurance cost may be a factor. They say people are leaving LA, but are they all leaving California? LA is overcrowded. That is why you have the problems you do. Like NY. Pretty much the same. High cost for real estate because it is more people than homes. Question is, why do so many people want to live in these cities?

Perhaps in the future we can have blue state coalitions and leave the red states to wither on their own

🤷‍♀️

Maybe we can have the blue states join Canada or something.

California is only growing through international migration. Its been losing its domestic population for years. The reason why people want to live in LA is the climate, proximity to the ocean, and the mountains. A better question is why do so many people move to Houston, a city with a climate that is oppressive from mid-April through mid-October. The vast majority of cities are Blue. Blue cities in red states and swing states tend to have more moderate/pro-growth pro-law and order policies. That isn't always the case, but in general it is.

For example, by virtually any measure, Atlanta is a better ran city than any of the cities on the West Coast. The same is true of mid-sized cities like Omaha or Salt Lake City (blueish city in a red state). Minneapolis is a better ran city than West Coast or Northeastern cities are. Houston and Dallas in many ways are both better ran.

All cities have their problems, that just goes along with have a lot of people in close proximity to each other. Precisely because you have a lot of people in close proximity to each other, you have to to find the balance between lots of rules for everyone that are enforced, and keeping bureaucracy and regulation at a level that doesn't impede building the housing needed in those areas. California doesn't enforce the rules people need to live in close proximity to each other, while at the same time, they have far too much regulation and bureaucracy.

I've got some news for you...people are moving from Point A to Point B all the time in this country. Thanks for coming to my TED talk.

The entire list is people leaving blue states for red, other than a few areas in Florida. This is going to change political representation in the 2030 census. Dems will lose both house seats and EC votes.
And living in places with hurricanes and tornadoes and no FEMA won't affect that at all, eh?

Strange how Old Confederacy types really need to believe everyone wants to live near them.
They wouldn't survive without AC and if the power grid collapses, they die in droves.

The red states are hardly withering though. Texas, Florida, Georgia, and North Carolina are all booming. South Carolina and Tennessee are quickly coming up as well. Sure, there are states like Mississippi and West Virginia that are red, but there are also states like New Mexico that are blue.

As to joining Canada, I like Canada, but per-capita GDP and incomes are much higher in the United States than Canada. Citizens of the poorest states in America have more disposable income on average than citizens of Canada's wealthiest provinces. I work in tech and looked at moving to Canada a few years ago. Even in the wealthiest cities there, I would take a 40% pay cut, and I am not coming from the Bay Area, I am coming from the Midwest. Moreover, housing costs are much higher there than in the USA.

The traffic is horrid....why? Too many people. It would be a good thing if some people left.....but we're not seeing any significant drop.

Yeah, I wouldn't be a fan of dealing with that traffic on the daily.
