Local NBC affiliate ok? CNN may run a story on how an innocent bystander was attacked by an evil racist republican statue and bravely fought off the possible hate crime using fire But it does look like an act of vandalism to me.

CHICAGO — A photo of a vandalized replica of President Abraham Lincoln is gaining traction online, but it turns out it was destroyed years ago. The replica, which sits near 69th and Wolcott in Chicago’s West Englewood neighborhood, is from an old gas station. And it was destroyed prior to the deadly white supremacist rally in Charlottesville.

......The statue is on the corner of 69th and Wolcott. While the ward is a super gerrymandered majority Latino district, the statue itself is in an overwhelmingly black neighborhood.
The statue was originally put there in 1926 when it was an all white neighborhood.
Using Google Street View, we have collected pictures of the statue going back to 2007. The nose was already broken off at that time. Between 2007 and yesterday, the statue has been spray painted, carved on, and pieces appear to have been broken off over and over......

Protesters with a Memphis religious groups took a shovel to Confederate Lt. Gen. Nathan Bedford Forrest’s grave and statue in a public park on Wednesday, in an act that many locals are calling vandalism.
“If he’s gone, some of this racism and race-hate might be gone,” Isaac Richmond, of the Commission on Religion and Racism, told a local CBS affiliate. “We got a fresh shovel full, and we hope that everybody else will follow suit and dig him up.”
