Leaving America... Ideas?

Well the Americans were forced out by Native Americans and their Allies.
Why would the Mexican Mafia, the Native Americans, and the Black Radicals all team up to attack the white people? I fail to see how they could get any real support in the general community. They'd be outnumbered and outgunned in so many ways. It's just not feasible. It's ludicrous. Even if every single minority turned on the white populace, we'd still have numbers and resources well on our side.

If anything, I see a more tangible threat being the militia-types planning a surprise uprising when so much of our army is overseas. They'd be the ones I'd be worried about, not the Mexican Mafia working with crazy black people.

Who then?

Mexican Mafia are mostly Natives themselves, and the Mexicans in general are still angry at losing half their country to the Gringos. Nation of Islam is openly hostile to White America.

An organized smaller unit will always defeat a disorganized disunited Enemy. They would also have the element of suprise and a particular goal where as the opposition wouldnt even know what happend until it was too late.

False, if Sauds could plan and execute the biggest attack on US soil from Afghanistan using limited resources. Think what an organized well financed operation can do from here.

If you want to start another thread for this stuff, I'll show up, but this really isn't what I wanna talk about here.

I still like the megatsunami

La Palma is currently the most volcanically active island in the Canary Islands Archipelago. It is likely that several eruptions would be required before failure would occur on Cumbre Vieja.[9][10] However, the western half of the volcano has an approximate volume of 500 km3 (5 x 1011 m3) and an estimated mass of 1.5 x 1015 kg. If it were to catastrophically slide into the ocean, it could generate a wave with an initial height of about 1,000 metres (3,281 ft) at the island, and a likely height of around 580 metres (1,903 ft) at the Caribbean and the Eastern North American seaboard when it runs ashore eight or more hours later. The likelihood of this happening is a matter of vigorous debate.[11]

Megatsunami - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

a tsunami, along with an earthquake, is supposed to have destroyed the Minoan civilization. But the earthquake in the USA would destroy the West Coast, not the East Coast where there is NYC and Washington...so you decide

Other theories have been proposed based on archeological evidence found on Crete indicating that a tsunami, likely associated with the eruption, impacted the coastal areas of Crete and may have severely devastated the Minoan coastal settlements. [37][38][39] A more recent theory is that much of the damage done to Minoan sites resulted from a large earthquake that preceded the Thera Eruption.[40]

Another idea could be the extinction of bees because of intensive use of pesticides...there would be a break in the food chain and a huge famine

Or also an experimental accident: a laboatory which succeeds in creating a small black hole or a kind of solar fusion that destroys a large city like NYC or Washington

think you already nailed a pertinent and timely reason for a mass exodus. our current political and economic crisis, resulting in Usurped power and economic collapse

First of all kalle, it's usually a good idea to proofread your texts. It makes them easier to read. Secondly, that wouldn't lead to the mass emigration I need.

Some ideas I've thrown around are huge disasters like Yellowstone erupting or nuclear attacks, or complete economic breakdown... but both have their problems. We're just too big of a country...
I think you've found your answer.

The jobs keep leaving here, so it would make sense that people eventually start leaving here, like with Mexico.

P.S. its kind of political, but you brought it up, and its one of the better ways of starting your emigration that doesn't lead to your story being about some disaster rather than just people leaving and setting up a new in a different place.

To make this worse, a new virus (to be determined), is able to proliferate in the run down conditions that this lead to, and since the economy is in shambles, only the lucky or the rich are able to get any sort of real treatment for it at all. .

a zombie virus?

:2razz:

The problem is that alot of the suggestions being brought up would make the story seem more about the 'natural disaster' or 'virus' that created the exodus rather than the lifestyle that the Americans have to adjust to living to in their new home countries.

From what I gathered he wanted to make the main plot be about setting up small 'Chinatown' equivalent neighborhoods in other countries based on Americanism.

Unfortunately with all this natural disaster stuff, it would seem that the story would take on a theme of a natural disaster or virus instead of the original intended plot.

Yeah, it would have to be more of a sustained disaster, like the potato famine, or the perpetual state of disaster in China from the Opium Wars up until around 2000.

Exactly.

if its one big thing, readers will be inclined to want to know more about that big event rather than the actual purpose of the plot.

It has to be something understandable, something that makes sense, yet something boring at the same time.

Thus lies my problem... if I make it an economic disaster, I'm afraid of it becoming too much about politics leading to the disaster. If I make it a natural disaster, I risk what you talked about above. The problem is that America is too big and too powerful for us to really reach the point of mass emigration, as well as it not being in our nature. On the other hand, as a writer, it's the story I want to tell. I think gal's on the right track when he talked about reinforcing it as background. Maybe set the bulk of the stories 5 years after the collapse...

Here's a few ideas I have in mind:

A group of libertarians, realizing that no country is as free as they'd like, set up Friedman City on the Antarctic Penninsula.

The opening up of a "home food" restaurant in Tehran.

The letters passed between an extended family that's ended up in Germany, England, Chili, and Japan, and someone still in the US.

A Texan emigrant trying to navigate the Japanese culture of respect.

A group of Christian emigrants in (insert generally hostile non-christian nation here) trying to keep their faith in a new environment.

I'm of course always open to new ideas.

If Sam Adams, Widmer Brothers, New Belgium, and several other brewers had to shut down, and a law preventing Guinness from being imported over here. Then, I would consider moving to Ireland, where my grandfather was born.

Here's a different spin. Instead of American's emigrating because of some major negative issue in the US, how about them emigrating because of some major positive issue, elsewhere. Some new energy source is either discovered or invented in Belgium (there you go, bub) and with the European Union in full force, a multi-national conglomerate is formed, making the EU, and of those countries far richer and more enticing to live in than the US. Going this route will eliminate the need to focus on the disaster. You would only need minimal focus on the invention/discovery.

If you use it and get it published, use my name as a minor character somewhere.

Then it would be characterized as anti-american, and protested by Ann Coltwhore.

I'll consider it, but even if I don't use it, I'll consider adding Captain Courtesy's American Bar and Grill in Osaka, Japan.

I think this idea if very intriguing. It sets the stage for what you are looking for while keeping some sense of reality.

Of course there will be an americanwoman bartending at Captain Courtesy's American Bar and Grill, right? ;)

Overpopulation

OR!

People that just want to get back to nature... get away from the ugly, stinky cities that keep encroaching on beautiful landscapes.

Then all of the leeches & moochers would flock to the EU's ultra-welfare state & we the people of the United States could lower our tax rates and return to being the land of the free & the home of the brave.

I'm in Alaska now and was slimed by a sea star at 'work' today.

I was offering a suggesting for a someone's book. The fact that our metro areas are growing is indisputable. He could push that a bit further into the future for his work of fiction and use what I suggested as a reason that people would leave the country en masse.

Personally, I know if I can manage to get to Dominica and make a living there in a country with NO metropolitan areas, I am going to do so. It's a motivation for me to leave the country, it's been a motivation for others to leave the country, push that a step further in a fictional book and you could have a motivation for many thousands to leave the country.
