LA immigration protests live updates: 700 Marines deployed to Los Angeles

This reminded me of something that happened that day.

An aide took the time as the congressfolk were retreating to safety to make sure those boxes were secured before retreating herself without instruction.

Unsung hero. May have saved the Experiment that day.

You're right. There is no such thing as an open border as described by TamleeWe used to cross into Quebec from the Maine woods at a remote control point. After about 30 miles of woods you got to a little tiny house with bathrooms that clearly had been outhouses not too long ago. You answered a pretty complete set of questions about where you were going, what you were going to do, how long you were going to stay and what you were bringing into Canada. They got pretty nosy about cigarettes and alcohol and how much money you were bringing in. Five hundred feet after leaving the customs establishment you hit 30 miles of dirt roads. I always believed that they asked the very few border crossers so many questions out of sheer boredom. The American customs office on the other side wasn't much different.
 
Law Enforcement is handling this all wrong. Instead of tear gas and bean bags. They should be shooting doobies (blunts) and gummy bears over the crowd. They'll mello out, buy a pizza and head home for a nap.

The incident took place at the Wilshire Federal Building in Los Angeles where Marines took charge of the mission to protect the building earlier on Friday, in a rare domestic use of U.S. troops after days of protests over immigration raids.

Reuters images showed Marines apprehending a civilian, restraining his hands with zip ties and then handing him over to civilians from the Department of Homeland Security.

Asked about the incident, the U.S. military's Northern Command spokesperson said active duty forces "may temporarily detain an individual in specific circumstances."

"Any temporary detention ends immediately when the individual(s) can be safely transferred to the custody of appropriate civilian law enforcement personnel," a spokesperson said.

The troops are authorized to detain people who pose a threat to federal personnel or property, but only until police can arrest them. Military officials are not allowed to carry out arrests themselves.
 
Also the guy they detained in the photo in the tweet I posted above is apparently a veteran no less. So yea, double **** the current troops.

The Secretary of Defense shall prescribe such regulations as may be necessary to ensure that any activity (including the provision of any equipment or facility or the assignment or detail of any personnel) under this chapter does not include or permit direct participation by a member of the Army, Navy, Air Force, or Marine Corps in a search, seizure, arrest, or other similar activity unless participation in such activity by such member is otherwise authorized by law.

I don't see the Higher Commanders allowing Marines to go hot.
Right now, TACO needs to look tough and distract the news cycle from his failures.
This is a test run to see how Congress, the Courts and the American people will react.
An interesting sidebar to the TACO shit show in LA is the cancelling of Lawton/Ft. Sill Flag Day parade.
While the City leaders claim it is to keep everyone safe, our local NO KINGS protesters are overwhelmingly Veterans who just wanted to march in the parade. I doubt anyone thinks veterans will run amok and attack their fellow citizens. This is more like the leaders worried about what TACO will think seeing peaceful veterans who swore and oath to the defend the Constitution and see it as more than just words rise up and remind us all we got rid of a king almost 2 centuries ago and really don't want an immoral thief trying to anoint himself King TACO....

What they want is for protesters to follow their orders. Law enforcement asks and demands things of people that people are not required to comply with -- like all the ****ing time.

GOP fights hard to secure the border so that anyone not a citizen coming to the USA does it legally and is vetted first - Democrats don't do that

One of the biggest ironies, is that Democrats fight hard for wages for workers, benefits, time off etc. Except those illegals they want here so badly. Those low income, low educated, low skilled illegal workers they want working for cheap/low wages, outside USA labor laws. Remember historically Democrats were the slave owners, they were the KKK, they were the haters of civil rights ..... and right now? We're seeing the abuse of all the non-citizens in every way from human trafficking to kid abuse to low wages to outside labor laws ... and Democrats are fighting hard to make sure they keep those slavish-laborers. Democrats want slave laborers, they want a system of super low income people doing the manual labor all so they can have cheap tomatoes, avocados and lettuce.

It is a deflection from my point that Biden deported more illegal migrants without targeting families with sick children, older adults that have peacefully lived here for decades and contribute to their local communities, people that with active asylum requests, etc..

just be honest - non-citizens don't like the laws, don't want to wait to do immigration the right way and breaking the law is easier/more beneficial to them so they do it

can I do that when I buy/drive car? buy/own a gun? what laws can we just ignore because they're inconvenient? is that how you want a country/society to go, where everyone just does what they want to because they want to ?

Well it’s like this

You have group a that thinks migrants are
Taking jobs from Americans.
Stealing your tax dollars.
Are an overwhelmingly criminal element.
Eating cats and dogs.
Insert 1000 other stupid excuses here.
They need to be removed be any means necessary and it’s an emergency.

This is all completely untrue but that doesn’t seem to matter much these days. I place you in this group.

Then you have a group the thinks
We destroyed their countries.
They are mostly hardworking people.
There are very few violent criminals and good riddance to those that are.
They are a large contributor to our economy.
They deserve a pathway to citizenship.
We are a nation of immigrants.

If you truly believe you are in this category of people then I apologize but honestly I see your posts and zero of them reflect an honest assessment in this way. Feel free to post em if you got em. But my opinion stands.
