Kirk Mock Duckworth's Mixed-Race Background

Seems Duckworth is going to have this race wrapped up after Kirk's appalling comment in yesterday's debate.


Duckworth: "My family has served this nation in uniform, going back to the Revolution. I'm a daughter of the American Revolution. I've bled for this nation. But I still want to be there in the Senate when the drums of war sound. Because people are quick to sound the drums of war, and I want to be there to say this is what it costs, this is what you're asking us to do. … Families like mine are the ones that bleed first."

Kirk: "I had forgotten that your parents came all the way from Thailand to serve George Washington."

Being stupid doesn't make you say overtly racist things, being racist does. Being stupid just means you think it'd be wise to say something like that in a senate race.

Well, as of this morning Mark Kirk apologized, but not before his campaign doubled down after the debate.

Nobody said Thailand was a race. Associating someone and their ancestry as foreign because of their skin color is racist. This wasn't even under-the-surface racist, it was blatant and direct, to a no-legged veteran nonetheless. Disgusting.

It was certainly bigoted and ethnicly insensitive. But claiming that associating some one born in Thailand to a Thai native mother to Thailand is somehow racist is just silly and ignornat.

Ergo... nothing. The comment was about the country of the candidates ancestry not about her race and those who would label it racist are just as ignorant as Duckworth.

Im not suprised you missed the underlying subtext there. Kirk was attempting to paint Duckworth as not a "true American" because her family came from Thailand.
 
Kirk has always been a little loopy, I've tried so hard to support in for the senate but I can't. Democrats can chalk this one down as an easy win if they are haven't (of course they have).
