King Charles III visits Africa

in Kenia to day

comments: the Royals are completely ignorant
Why? Kenya is a Commonwealth country. Used to be part of the British Empire. Like Canada and India.

Their Majesties are honoring the Kenyan people by visiting them.

The British introduced European ideas of governance to Kenya.

The Kenyans should express their gratitude by being very respectful of Their Majesties.

Why should the Kenyans be “grateful” that the British Empire occupied them, committing boatloads of atrocities in the process?

What is there to apologize for?

Please, God, kill me now.

The British massacred Kenyans. They should be thankful for the mass murder of their grandparents

Thank you for the information.

But maybe the British would have been more gentle if the Kenyan people had respectfully accepted British rule as being very beneficial in teaching them how to run an independent nation when they were eventually prepared to do so.

Mau mau

When the brits killed Kenyans fighting to end british colonialism

You know " no taxation without representation "
And?

Historically, which country was NOT formed through conquest and fighting for independence? And which people that preceded them similarly did not behave in the same manner? Prior to the Brits, the Arabs ruled what is now Kenya.

Kenya's struggle for independence was so 60 years ago.

Do you daily feel the need to go kiss the asses of the Canadian aboriginal people who's land you currently occupy? Why haven't you apologized and returned back to whatever ancestral homeland your people came from?

I'm not being rude here...I'm being serious. If you feel that the British Monarchy today should still be trying to atone for historical reality, what moral high ground can YOU possibly occupy?

Yes and?

Do you find apologies for doing something wrong is bad?

Canada has apologized, and is compensating aboriginals for wrongs done to them over the last 70 years

The residential schools for instance, the victims of those schools have been apologized to ( small comfort) and are getting financial compensation for the wrongs done to them

Your excuse of everyone else did it, is just an excuse to make yourself sleep better at night. Not being able to accept that perhaps the country you are so proud of did evil acts is something you can accept so you tell yourself it was not so bad and others were worse. Just to make you feel better.

Canada has done evil things, I had no power over thar, not being born at the time. I have no personal responsibility for those acts. All I can do is work to ensure Canada does not do them again.

Not blind acceptance of what Canada does, and I have to support it

what did he do there then?

Wave to the pleb and read a speech someone else wrote. Neocolonialism masterclass.

Visits like these to former colonies seem like a sorry attempt to assert a "family of nations", as Charles himself called it.

Calling family to the people who you once ill treated and so brutally violated their human dignity is kinda... eerie.

the germans did the same in tanzania.

chancellor scholz was on a visit there some days ago.

What do you think they did 'wrong'? I mean...apart from what every other race, country, and nation has done throughout history?

Thats nice...and yet...unlike the Brits who turned over Kenya, you still remain as occupiers, offering trinkets, baubles, and 'apologies'. And you still remain living comfortable with your privilege while the aboriginal first people struggle to survive.

Sorry...but that stinks of hypocrisy.

Heres the thing. If no European had ever set foot on this continent, I assure you....the Iroquois would still have laid waste to the flat heads in the north east.
"It is the height of glory [for a warrior] when he takes prisoners and brings them back alive. As soon as he arrives, the entire village gathers and lines up along the path the captives will take. The prisoners receive a cruel welcome: some tear out their fingernails, others cut off their fingers or ears, others beat them with sticks."

The women, raped and enslaved. Children, raped and killed...often eaten. Warriors used for bloodsport.

There is no judgment there. Its what societies did.

And then societies grew...and learned...and matured.

I do not understand the pathetic need people have to prone themselves to atone for history.
