“Get out for what?” he continued. “If I’d gotten out Trump would be the nominee, he would have won Ohio. And frankly, we’ll win some districts in Wisconsin. We will move to Pennsylvania where I’m basically in a statistical tie with Trump.” “And when we go to New York and everywhere else, we’re going to pick up delegates,” Kasich predicted. “It’s absurd, it’s absurd. You know, if you really want, let them consolidate behind me because frankly I’m the one that can win in the fall. And I’m the one that can get the crossover votes.”

You should run as a Dem then asshole.

What exactly did he say to make you think he is insane? (Understand he is just a candidate talking about what some of the polling tells him, and us.)

You should run as a Dem then asshole.

Doesn't seem particularly insane to me. Are you upset that he said he could get the crossover votes?

It isn't a bad idea and would be a plausible deal, if the Cruz and Trump people cannot agree.

That is my guess. I presume the OP does not realize that a candidate from Republicans or Democrats eventually has to appeal to Independents and moderates or their hopes for the White House pretty much comes to an end.

Yeah I wasn't really seeing the problem there.

You and I are in the same boat, not really sure what we are going for in this thread.

That Trump and Cruz should consolidate behind him because he's the moderate cross the aisle guy.

You know, that strategy that elected President Dole, bought us Presidents McCain and Romney...

That's because you guys think progressivism is more appealing than it is.

Kasich is far from being progressive. Reasonable, knowing what is actually possible, that is more his style. Check into his record. He didn't make too many promises he couldn't deliver on.
A man of his word, like him or not.

You sure Kasich is like McCain and Romney?

They may have some similarities but perhaps what Kasich is hinting at is the crossroad that the GOP is at. Consider how badly the 2012 Growth and Opportunity Project ended up, laughed right out of consideration by the very groups that made this field of candidates for 2016 plausible. This cycle has been all about who is establishment, who is most representative of whatever demographic within the GOP, etc. All the same splinters that showed up in 2012 and 2008, but somehow worse off this time around.

If the goal is to elect someone solidly social conservative right, and anti all things left then I am unsure who left in the field really fits the bill. Cruz perhaps? We sure he will be that polarizing my way or the highway sort of President?

Who said I was a progressive? Regardless, lets discuss the issue here. Why is Kasich insane?

If you took away Trump's current perceived stance on illegal immigration he would be a democrat's wet dream come. Because if you asked how many of them support single payer health care, assault weapons ban, abortion, would like someone who supports late term abortion appointed to the supreme court, wants a leftist like Oprah Winfrey as VP, a 14.25% tax on the overall wealth of Americans with 10 million to pay off the debt, a neutral stance on Israeli/Palestinian situation, and other liberal ideas many of those libs would say yes.

Trump's a chump, been saying he could have run as a Dem this whole time.

His statement is statistically accurate, pragmatically intelligent, and just plain correct. How does that make him insane?

Obviously past elections aren't important to you.

You should run as a Dem then asshole.

Actually, he's right.

If he hurts Trump, that's good.

He's also the kind of GOPer who could send Hillary packing. America isn't as crazy as Cruz and I don't think there's nearly enough support for someone as much of a [basement-worthy language omitted] as Trump.

If anyone is insane, it is the GOP primary voters who demand people to be or pretend to be severely conservative in order to get the nod. America just isn't that far right, and they aren't going to make it become that far right by running unelectables.

Obviously past elections aren't important to you.

Correlation does not imply causation. A hard right nominee like Cruz will never get past the general election, nor will a hyperbolic showman like Trump. If you'd like to see reasoning based on empirical evidence, look at the polls, as well as the past.

Saying the GOP needs to nominate a hard right candidate so we can win the general election is like saying "To get out of this hole, we need to keep dig deeper."

He's also a scumbag. He's just the type of a-hole that wraps his douchebaggery in a smile.

Let him run 3rd party so more crossovers will abandon Hillary? Oh joy!

So now you're understanding why Romney was such a poor choice.

What is his word now? Do you consider that honorable?
