WASHINGTON (AP) — The Supreme Court’s conservative majority on Wednesday signaled it would uphold Mississippi’s 15-week ban on abortion and may go much further to overturn the nationwide right to abortion that has existed for nearly 50 years.

The fate of the court’s historic 1973 Roe v. Wade decision legalizing abortion throughout the United States and its 1992 ruling in Planned Parenthood v. Casey, which reaffirmed Roe, probably won’t be known until next June.

But after nearly two hours of arguments, all six conservative justices, including three appointed by former President Donald Trump, indicated they would uphold the Mississippi law.

At the very least, such a decision would undermine Roe and Casey, which allow states to regulate but not ban abortion up until the point of viability, at roughly 24 weeks.

And there was also substantial support among the conservative justices for getting rid of Roe and Casey altogether.

COMMENT:-

FORWARD to the past.

I can't think of anything that the -Supreme- Republican Court of the United States of America could do that would be a bigger gift to the Democratic Party.

The question that needs resolving is how much can the government restrict a right before it’s considered a violation. There are multiple issues that will be resolved once that’s answered

No such thing as "the Republican Court"; the alleged "republicans" cross over to vote with "Democratic" justices far more often than Dem Js go the other way. Think back a few months to the election fraud cases; how many did the 6-3 "Republican" court agree to hear?

Indeed, most Republicans on the Court voted for Roe.

It may be the first time a Supreme Court voted to overturn its own decision based solely on changes to its personnel.

They can try to ban them.... They will be about as effective as bans on pot..
That's exactly right. Abortions were performed before Roe and will continue to be performed is Roe is overturned entirely or in part. It will be comparable to bans on various drugs and "assault weapons".

Roe should be tossed. Abortion policy should be a state level matter, not a federal one.
That was already ruled on 50 years ago. It’s neither

Do we really want that much government control over our lives?

That's a fascinating admission. I wish more righties would understand that abortions will continue post-Roe. They just won't be legal and as safe.

Except the Christo-fascists won't be done when they kill off Roe.
They openly said they also intend to try criminalizing ALL forms of contraception, plus premarital sex, extramarital sex, and alternate sexualities.
They'll even try to criminalize sex for anything except procreation if they can figure out how.

Absolutely. Anything outside of one-man-one-woman sex is in their target sights.

If we don't fight back, we are going to live Under His Eye.
