Well I didnt know where to put this but I guess if It's in the wrong section you guys can move it. I'm only 20 years old but for most of my life I've had problems with my pancreas. Even though I lead a mostly healthy life I've been hospitalized because of it a couple of times in the last couple of years. Last night was one of those nights. I was rushed to an ER because I started to violently vomit and my wife and family didn't really know what else to do. The doctors told me I would need a pancreas transplant within the next 2-3 years if my condition continues. They also tell me it doesn't look like this will happen as my body for some reason has shown to have some heavenly given gift for quick regeneration and is improving slowly but surely. I myself don't hold to much faith as my current situation has shown itself to go from good to bad to worse in meer minutes. However, the reason I'm posting this is because I'm asking for your prayer because I'm very fearful that I wont live long enough to see my first child be born and this more then anything scares me as he/she(finding out this friday) is the fruit of all my labour and hard work. Not because I'm a religious man or anything of the sort. I simply believe in the power of mind and that if a large number of people hope for the best when it comes to a person's health it'll help them get through their toughest times.
Thank You.

OMG, David, what a terrible feeling. Are they able to give you an estimate on how long it takes to get a pancreas transplant? Would you consider getting a second opinion? I will cross my fingers that everything will turn out okay. I really feel for you. Hang in there.

1069's post is very informative.
David, will you let us know what happens? We are pulling for you.
Are you diabetic, Hatuey?
I remember reading recently that the average wait time for a pancreas transplant in the US was 16+ months; 16.3, I believe.
But at the Mayo Clinic (the one in Jacksonville), the average wait time is only a little over a month.
Also, the national average three-year survival rate after a pancreas transplant in the US is approximately 90%... while at the Mayo Clinic, Jacksonville, the three-year survival rate is 100%.
What do you have to do to get into the Mayo Clinic's transplant program?
Does it cost a lot of money? Does insurance cover it? Do they have strict criteria for whom they accept?
I would look into this option if I were you, before you look to purchasing a pancreas from another country (I hope you don't mean on the black market, that's super dangerous and illegal, and I wouldn't imagine the long-term survival rate is very good, either).
Have you already looked into the Mayo Clinic option?
I can try to get you more info about their program, if it'll help.
Whatever you do, do something. Good luck.
David, don't forget to keep us posted on how things are going. You have LOTS of people pulling for you. :bright:
Yeah I got some test results back today - It's actually looking pretty good. So far I'm on heavy medication(dilaudid & prednisone) and the condition of my pancreas is improving. Doctors told me if I watch my diet and try to keep healthy I could actually lead a pretty normal life from here on. The treatments seem to be working so far so I got really high hopes.
That's fantastic. Does this mean you would not need a transplant?
They dont know yet it's a tricky situation the analogy the doctor used was like an engine that under the right treatment can keep working without any problems but could just as easily have an unlucky day and make a whole mess out of itself. Right now the treatment seems to be working so the hopes are leaning towards me not needing a transplant. My pancreatic enzymes seem to be responding well so far to the medication they're giving me so the odds are great right now and the skys look pretty clear. I'm taking it really easy like I've been ordered to. I'm on a special diet, some exercise trying to keep as healthy and stress free as possible. It's hard cause I'm used to wearing my suits and going to work everyday and working my *** off but I'm getting use to working from home and being in a very relaxed environment most of the day(my house). I really thank you for asking I really appreciate the support I've gotten from you guys. From the deepest part of my heart I swear I do. My wife is very religious I showed her some of the messages I got from yall and she went out and bought a St. Barbara candle and put it in her altar for all the people here at DP.
