House Speaker John Boehner says he’s open to calls from the White House to curb some of the $4 billion in oil and gas subsidies and tax incentives, as Washington continues to feel the heat over high gas prices.
Oil and gas producers are “gonna pay their fair share in taxes and they should,” Boehner told ABC News.
“I don't think the big oil companies need to have the oil depletion allowances. But for small, independent oil and gas producers — if they didn't have this — there'd be even less exploration in America than there is today.”
Really oil companies do not need these subsidies at all. Certain businesses may need government loans to take off including agriculture but they should always have to pay it back.
good post. why should we subsidize rapists?
I agree except boehner was never for ending them before and neither was the rest of the GOP...they are spouting it now because big oil would rather have the guaranteed corporate tax cuts than shaky subidies that are alot harder to get rid of...This is all smoke and BS by the teaparty
Tax breaks help businesses grow, throwing tax payer cash at them does not. Granted our tax system itself needs a serious overhaul.
No, no business needs tax payer cash to prop them up. If a start up business needs cash, its called a Bank.

If Boehner had any balls (which he doesnt) he should pursuit ending all subsidies and let every industry stand on their own two feet. Killing the welfare state includes corporate welfare as well. In addition ending their tax breaks will just make things worse. Its pathetic how every scumbag in DC (with the exception of one house member) turns to bull**** class warfare populism during tough times.

Without subsidization I fear we would see oil prices shoot up and a gold rush mentality enter into the oil market.

I remember on some TP You Decide website, a bunch of people voted "end corp tax cuts for companies that ship jobs overseas" and Boehner and the rest of the TP conveniently ignored it when they started to campaign.

I wish we could find a single libertarian who has balls, and isn't on estrogen pills. I wish one would run and win, but I guess no one votes for people that merely engage in party bashing without offering solutions, beside legalizing pot.
