Septuagenarian Joe Biden fell three times attempting to board Air Force One on his way to Atlanta.

America’s oldest president, 78, recovered to give a salute at the top of the stairs before departing to meet with Asian American community leaders in the wake of the massage parlour massacre.

Press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre told White House pool reporters the president was “doing fine” after the fall.

“It was very windy. I almost fell coming up the steps myself. He is doing 100 percent,” she told reporters. “He’s doing fine. He’s preparing for the trip just fine.”

The triple tumble comes amid question over the ageing president’s fitness for office after referring to his vice president as “President Harris”.

Half of Americans were “not confident” that Mr Biden was “physically and mentally up to the job”, with a third concerned he hasn’t yet held a press conference, according to a Rasmussen poll in March.

I hope he doesn't have thin skin like a lot of elderly people. If he does, that kind of accident will require medical attention.

I'm no fan of Biden, but he actually started out with pep up the stairs. I don't put much to this - he kind of caught himself and all 'three stumbles' were basically the same episode. I liked his salute at the top.

He certainly isn't the same as he was just a few years ago, but maybe they will bring back Chevy Chase to SNL and he can resurrect his Ford character as Biden instead?

I join ALL Americans in hoping that he is feeling well after the mishap.

Anyone who has a loved one or good friend who is prone to falling (such as some patients of Parkinson's disease) will understand how terrifying it is to see him/her fall, especially since the consequences could be fatal.

I hope his advisers will find a safer way for him to board and -- especially -- to deplane. Maybe a jetway?

He's old. Its unfortunate. I suspect he'll take it a little more careful next time but this will be fodder for jokes for a while.

Okay. could be a weak ankle, or inner ear or other balance related problem. If it happens frequently , he should see his doctor. Our sense of balance is often compromised as we age. A few sessions with a physical therapist can teach some compensatory strategies.

Just pointing out hypocrisy.

Biden passed a decent stimulus, signed some good EOs, restored some standing we lost with the world, and has not made any major mistakes. Sounds pretty decent to me. I am not bothered by an occasional stumble.

Americans need warning about this latest humiliation and should stay at home to avoid ridicule as we see Sleepy even incapable of getting his legs and crooked brain to work in Unity .

You mean Dems blocked a decent stimulus to undermine their electoral opponent, and only passed it once their man was in power.

Restore America's standing with who -- his masters in China, and the same old NATO clique who don't want to pay their fair share? Meanwhile the rest of the world is watching aghast, seeing DC ringed with barbed wire and occupied by thousands of troops. Wall Street is happy though, since the size of their wallets depends on how much Biden can kowtow to Beijing.
