Was jesus a socialist. Of course he was around before those politically theories were officially presented but did he operate that way essentially?

Yeah, I'm not sure at what point "blessed are the poor" ended up meaning that poverty is a moral failure and they and their whole family need to be left out on the street corner to die until they learn their lesson to just work harder.

Feed the poor, despise the rich....Jesus was definitely a class warfare commie. ...lol

You can't serve both God and money, but neither can you serve both the state and money.

Agreed. Jesus could never be a capitalist
Capitalism is greed and selfish interest based. So, I agree. Jesus would be against the core principles.

I agree. Pretty much a humanist and socialist. The current pope shares many of those ideals which is why republicans have taken to calling him a "communist".

In his time, the rules were that whoever had the gold makes the rules.
Not unlike what's going on now.

It is amazing to see the hate filled Christian right be all about Jesus and pray when at teh same time the people they hate are more Christian than they are.

Yet he did not live by these rules.....and thus my point

I fixed it for ya.

Typically, socialists and communists deny the existence of God and instead demand devotion to the state.

Not really. There is no requirement to abandon God in either socialism or communism. And the devotion is not to the state....its to the people

Jesus was a populist. Like me.

He was in it for the people....like socialists
I don't remember any stories about Jesus taking gold from rich guys and giving it to poor guys.
That's socialism.

To understand what Jesus was referring to, it's important to look at the whole comment in Matthew 5:3...

"Blessed are the poor in spirit : for theirs is the kingdom of heaven." KJV

“Happy are those conscious of their spiritual need, since the Kingdom of the heavens belongs to them." NWT

Jesus was speaking about the ones who were conscious of their spiritual needs and were hungry to learn about him and his kingdom, not the physically poor....Jesus realized as long as we live in this world, there will always be injustice and the poor, for he went on to say in Matthew 26:11...

"For you always have the poor with you, but you will not always have me."

That's socialism.
He took money from everyone and gave it to the poor. He fed everyone.
